A local dealer has a 2006 Limited-no options with 25k on it. I offered 16,800 and they didn't take it. :( I must keep looking now. Funny thing was when I got there one of the rear calipers was stuck, and the tire pressure light was on. Great way to conduct business

I think car dealers are starting to forget that customer service is a key to doing business, and that selling broken equipment is NOT good customer service.

One of the dealers I went to had a 2006 Limited, it had the check engine light on, was OBVIOUSLY in limp mode, the outside had a few scrapes, and one of the windows didn't work... And they didn't seem to care about any of that. They wanted 18,5 for it, and wouldn't go above 7k for my Jetta which (at the time) was in equally difficult shape. I expected the tough time about the Jetta, but they were not willing to do ANYTHING on the price of the CRD, and also were not interested in fixing the problems on it.

And it had been sitting on their lot for close to 90 days.

A motorcycle dealer I have been going to (and probably won't be going to much more) has failed to produce a bottle of touch-up paint I ordered almost a month ago, despite being paid. This same place claims to be the world's largest "full line" Honda dealer... And has 3 used bikes in their SHOWROOM that look like they have been dropped, wrecked, and abused. Scratches and scrapes, broken compartment doors, ripped seats... These bikes look TERRIBLE. Totally detract from the 50 or so new and pretty bikes, and the other used bikes that look like new. Why would a dealer want to do that to themselves?

That's what I was afraid of: the dealers are starting to read this forum and now the prices are turning around, heading upward, as opposed to when everyone was in a hurry to dump the little mule - shoulda got another one when they were a liability......................

Equally upsetting is, we're now between a rock and a hard place, where it is common sense to buy low\sell high - how do you watch someone else drive off in a favorite toy, now valuable because of personal blood, sweat, and tears invested in it?

Post subject:  The right CRD

The right one will come along. I will just be patient. I want to make sure I do this right. This is a lot of money for me.

Customer service at the dealerships is long forgotton unfortunately. I really thought that they would take my offer. It had been sitting on the lot for 56 days. I will keep searching.

Post subject:  Worse In California

CRDs are like gold in California where they were never sold new. Used sports go for $22k+ and LTDs for several $K more. looked at several at three dealers 120 miles apart. My wife preferred the LTD so we paid out $25K for an 06 with 21K miles. But is is fully loaded (not sure of a single option it is missing)and in great shape. No problems with it in 3 months. The dealer had been asking $31K (!) but it didn't sell for 9 months or longer, no surprise, they lowered the price to $28K, still no takers at $25K there were five buyers in line. It is quite possible that the price of these will decline but then go up again (at least slow depreciation as miles are added) as people figure out these are desirable vehicles and there is nothing like them available. Post subject:  Prices

I lost my job last November, and just started a new job this October. Money is tight. I can't afford to spend too much. I would really like to find one out of warranty with a bad torque convertor for cheap. Then I could upgrade it myself, and have the best of both worlds--A good deal, and a suncoast convertor. There will be more and more coming up for sale off of leases. I will find one. Thanks to all who commented.

I was at a Toyota dealer a week ago and brought in my Edmunds sheet showing my trade-in value at over $19,000. For trade in, here in the midwest, they offered $11,999. What a joke. I've had people offer $19,000 and turned it down. More proof that dealers are just not interested in selling anything but their own new stock.

LOL don't get me started on bad car dealers!

I went to testdrive a Nissan Patrol GQ from 1995 last year. Engine stalled on the test run two times, had to be towed back to the dealership through town by the dealership car. Really good publicity for that dealer, for sure! Radio was shot and the underbody of the car was red rust.

Dealer was not interested in fixing radio, not interested in going down in price and not interested in paying anything for my used car.

In return we left the place grinning about that soddy Patrol.

This autumn I bought my jeep! Woohoo, joy of joys. First day on delivery I went to show it to my GF who was home early. She noticed some water on the pavement. I thought it was the AC dripping condensate water. Turned out the cooling hose clamps had failed and poured cooling water. Flushed the system and added coolant again. Missed a course from work, but no problems. And luckily for me there has been no problems since then.

Just wanted to chime in on some stories :)

I have absolutely no clue. It was the dealer who added the coolant. It was the same color as the one which poured out. How technically talented that answer was
