Post subject:  Stanadyne Fuel Filter Cartridges

Did a little checking in preparation for the upcoming trip, and found a couple alternative sources of fuel filter elements for anyone using a Stanadyne FM100 fuel filter assembly.

On one website I found, www.mwfi.com , they have a cross-reference from OEM over to the standard Stanadyne p/n.

John Deere is apparently a big customer, and using their p/n's was able to cross over to a Wix equivalent that should be available at any O'Reilly's auto parts store.

2 micron 6" length - John Deere RE509032, Wix 33648

5 micron 6" length - John Deere RE53727, Wix 33633

30 micron 6" length - John Deere RE508633, Wix 33536

Diesel Power magazine must have been right a couple years ago when they called our diesel a "happy little tractor engine" - just can't seem to get away from running tractor filters on it!

I like the plug and play fit of the Racor, but the neatness of the Stanadyne filter system is kind of appealing. How big of a challenge was the conversion for you? Are you using their heater and WIF sensor?

Has anyone looked into using this Stanadyne filter with the built in lift pump option?

Well, I went ahead and ordered two of the 30 micron Wix version and picked them up yesterday at O'Reillys, just to have more than one spare for the trip.

32 BUCKS EACH!!!!  Probably because they're listed as being for a piece of John Deere construction equipment.

I can order the same filter on line or from a Stanadyne dealer for 14 bucks and change. I can understand some markup being a third party version of this filter, but over 100%?

At least I know that if I HAVE to, I can get a replacement filter on short order if there isn't time to get it thru my usual sources.
