I LOVE this Jeep, and I HATE this stupid, no good, piece of crap, hunk of JUNK!!! It all depends on what day you ask me. Guess what kind of day today is...... This has happened before, but today is the worst (so far I bet it died on me 15 time on the way home and then, about 1/4 mile from home, it starts acting normal!!??WTF BTW about half way home, I got out and pumped the primer and only got about 3 pumps in before it firmed up (heater plug not wet) I guess I'll throw a new filter on it just to see what happens, because I just filled it up last night but that was almost 100 miles ago. sorry for the rant On the other hand, I LOVE it the 98% of the time it runs well. |

DTC's ? I don't follow (I'm kind of slow sometimes) I have been thinking about a lift pump for a while, but I was wanting to get past the 7/70 in order to avoid complications. |

DTC=Detected Trouble Code or CEL (Check Engine Light). I have the extnded 7/70 on my 06 but come warm weather mine is getting the Cummins pump. My thinking is the pump sucking air, even if it shuts off or has a special coating to prevent damadge, is taking a hit everytime it gets air in it. It might live past 70k but for how long afterwards |

The CEL is on all the time (orm) I don't have a code reader and I didn't want to try to get it to the parts store. I guess I should figure out how to check the codes w/ the key.(stop being lazy |

Cobra OBD2 scaner @ harborfreight = 40bucks, will scan the codes and reset the CEL - B sure to note each DTC as it displays, post them here for further. |

That would be Autoenginuitydotcom for a DRBIII pcware substitute, just a tad more involved than a code reader |

Also, does it happen to mimic the DRBIII features for programming RKE transmitters/fobs and sentry keys? |

http://www.autoenginuity.com/ I kinda see it there, but it does not mention specifically if that actually means that you can program them. |

Also wondering which one would be the all around way to go. the PC version or the PDA. I guess it would be easier with the PDA, but you could probably multi task more on the laptop |

Well, I changed the fuel filter today. It was not abnormal or anything, no water either. The Jeep started just fine and seemed ok with the normal amount of power and no stalling. Just for the heck of it I took it around the block again, and it lost power. It's not stalling any more but it still has a serious power issue. If I kill it and restart, it has good power for maybe 2 good romps on the throttle, and then...........nota' I got home and re-bled, very tiny amount of air, I also tried the key trick for the codes, no luck. I guess I need to pick up a code reader today. |

Prolly impossible without the DCX authorization firmware\software - wish I could tell you more, but I absolutely do not get enough up close and personal quality time with the little mule to do any serious investigation. However, A.E. beats anything else I've seen, tho I have not indeed seen a DRBIII. (Well, maybe I have - he drives a KJ CRD, also) The PC version displays digital sensor info in 3 columns of 4 rows - may be kinda hard to see with a PDA |

P0088: fuel rail pressure too high P0093: fuel system leak(large) X2 P0102: MAF...blah blah blah. X2 These were the codes before I cleared it. After I cleared the codes and drove it around the block(with very little power still, but not stalling) these are the code I pulled: P0088: fuel rail pressure too high P0102: MAF I'm going to start digging through the FSM I found. |

While you're at it, check the fuel manager head for leaks, particularly around the heater - use the prime pump to put pressure on it for leak testing. |

I replaced the filter head a couple of months ago after a very unsuccessful CAT 2 conversion attempt, so I have been watching it closely. When I prime I get some moister in between the head and the heater puck. The item has a 12 month warranty so I may exchange it soon. The FSM has a number of tips for my "high rail press." code, including air leak, obstructed fuel lines, rail press. sensor, fuel pump, and bad fuel.(some others too I can't remember right now) I think I'm going to start by draining the tank since I just filled up about 100 miles before this all started. I don't understand why with a new filter I can't get any more than just around the block before it acts up, even if the fuel is bad wouldn't it run like normal until the filter clogged? Unless something got past the filter(that was replaced with the head a few months ago) and into the pump or rail. I plan on adding a lift pump and a couple of pre-filters VERY shortly after I get this crap straightened out. Any other Ideas are more than welcome at this point!!! |
