| Post subject: | MAJOR problem... ANY Suggestions? |
Hello all, I am having some major problems in my opinion. This started on 10/13/05. When I started it up, and move the shifter into Reverse, I get a lound semi grinding noise and then the Libby dies. Put back into park, and started again repeated the process and it dies. Did this multiple times just get out of the garage and onto the driveway. Finally got it running somewhat and tried to go from reverse to drive and it DIES!. Repeated the steps multiple times and it still dies. Finally got the Libby to the Dealer and had it checked out. HEre is what the repair ticket said: " CAUSE: E 08194392 Errounous MIL /DTC P0740-Torq CNVRTR CLTCH, No RPM DROP@LOCKUP- TSB 18-19-99 4946 Found REFLASH FOR ENGINE CONTROLLER 08194392 FOUND TSB 08-018-05 CONCERNING IDLE STABILITY " 10/14/05 After this it ran fine for less than 24 hrs. Went out and ran errands with the wife. Around 10 PM it started to run funny AGAIN! At a stop light, when the light turned green, I let of the brake, and tried to accelorate, but it wrapped the enigine up to around 3000 RPM before engaging 1st gear. then went to around 3500 RPM and shifted into third gear. It didnt even try to go into 4th or 5th at 50 MPH. Came to another stop light. Tried to manually shift from 1st into 2nd and finally into drive. WELL, it would go into first after wrapping up at about 2500 RPM, held it till 3000 RPM, shifted into second and no change. RPM still climbing... moved into drive, and finally shifted into third, but would hold third all the way up to 60 MPH. Decided to go on home and do some reaserch, but trying to get up the drive way at around 1 to 3 MPH and I started to roll BACKWARDS! Almost getting into a wreck. I had to bring the RPM's up to around 3000 BEFORE it would move forward. Finally got it into the driveway, and tried reverse. IT WAS NOT THERE!!! tried to bring the RPM's up to around 2500 and still no reverse. Put the Libby in park, opened the door and OH MAN what a foul stench was comming from the LIBBY! Popped the hood and checked the transmission fluid. Pulled out the dipstick, and smoke just billowed from the dipstick tube. Checked the fluid and it was clear, OVER the full mark (HOT) . Checked it again and still clear, and wellover the full mark (HOT). Got back inside and the trans temp light came on. So I shut her down. 10/17/05 Had the Libby towed BACK to the dealer, so wee will see what happens next. Anyone else had this many problems before 5000 miles? |

| Post subject: | Torque converter |
Grandcj7, Check out the thread: "Anybody get the shudder fixed" for LibertyCRD's account of his xmission problems. If your xmission is full of fluid then it sounds like either a shift solenoid or torque converter. I just hit 3k miles on my CRD and other than a little oil consumption not a problem to speak of. |

| Post subject: | Call from Dealer |
10/17/05 Well the dealer called today around 5:45 PM. He told me that the trasmission control module MAY be the culprit. Has a new one on the way, hopefully will be here tomorrow. I guess this is a hit and miss kinda sucky deal. |

My KJ is in the shop today and the mechanic seems to think that with the cruise control going in/out like that and the computer throwing a code, my transmission control module or speed sensor or something might be the issue. Guess I'll find out later... |
