Hi, I've had my CRD for a week now, and I notice that there is a fair amount of slop? in the drivetrain, when I come to a stop at the light, and then let off the brake there is an amount of slip before the vehicle starts to move forward. is this normal or not? it kinda sounds like a thud, and happens at speed when going down hill but not up hill, and not in reverse that I notice. Just want to find out before I hound the dealer with problems.

Sounds like the transmission is low on fluid. A few here had the same problem.

The torque converter disengages to avoid heat build up when at idle. It concerned me when I first bought as well. Once you hit the specified rpm it engages. Although I would check the fluid level as well (fully warmed, running, parking brake on, in park, after sitting for 5 min.). Also may want to look for the threads that talk about Torque Converter failure and what the signs are.

I do notice that when rolling, there is noticeable drivetrain lash when you go from forward loading (applying power) to reverse loading (engine braking). It's more noticeable when 4WD is enabled. Lifting the throttle too quickly (especially in 4WD) can result in some drivetrain clunking.

Maybe this is not related to drivetrain slop, exactly, but

In park, if you stand on the tires (loading the roof rack for example), it is surprising how much the tire will rock back and forth (about 20 deg of rotation).

I guess this is the sum of all the drivetrain backlash, all the way to where the "park lock" is in the tranny.

Drivetrain "lash" that's the correct terminology for it! I can agree/understand the TC unloading feature if that's what it is. Man I really like this truck, I re-read the manual and the 4wd features on the CRD are amazing!
Some features, bugs however:
I would like to be able to have more control over the AC compressor, currently it turns on without notification when using the floor vents. I would like to be able to disable that funtion.
I noticed that the dash lights blinked at me while driving home last night. Is this a common occurance? or is there a problem with the dash lighting system?
Finally, and I am sure that the dealer should take care of this, the backlight failed or is not making contact. but it might be easier for me to just go to A/Z and replace it myself.
I'm running B90 and I am getting about 22/23 mpg, which is fine for a vehicle of this size.

I had a dimming problem with my dash and every other light in my 03 CRD. Lights would go from its setting and enter max light then go back. It happened really quick so I just noticed a little blink. Tried setting the lighting all the way up (before the lights in the ceiling go on) and all the way down, problem hasn't shown again. It has been approximately 1 month now since last time the problem occurred.

DIESEL - saving millions of liters of petrol every day!

I have done the mod to disable A/C in floor and floor/def as linked in the above page. It wasn't too bad. The dash lights fussing has been traced to a faulty multi-function stalk (left) and some have had it replaced under warranty.
