I prefer towing rigs but any and all info is helpful. I cannot get what I want so I have to find another source. OEM size replacement is the only requirement. Please do not suggest EBC, I will never use their products again. Slotted rotors are ok but nothing cross-drilled. Dust is not an issue either, I would rather have dirty wheels than a crushed front end and pretty wheels. Thanks. |

I don't know if this info will be of any value but I understand that the Liberty system share the same design, suppliers, and materials as the Jeep GC so I will pass along my experience with brakes and towing using our '05 GC. I only have 24K on my CRD with no towing so that isn't of much help to you. 40,000 miles with ~20,000 miles towing a 25 ft, 6,000 TT trhoughout the western US. This includes much mountain driving up to 10,500 ft, 7% grades, and temps from 0 to 123F. In one instance we lost our trailer brakes doing down a 7 mile 6% grade and had to rely on vehicle brakes alone. This was done with no hint of fade, or other noticable braking problems. Our pads and rotors are still in great shape even at this mileage. Overall, I would say the best brake pads and rotors for the $$$$.....'05 and later at least, are the OEM brakes. I certainly an going to contiue to use what I know works well in all circumstances. I'm sure others will have additional insight. |

I am kinda disappointed with OEM parts. I am reading this today because at 44,000 miles the L.R. caliper has started locking up. Upon checking it, I found that the rear pads on both side are pretty well shot. ( they were due to be checked at 45K, anyway.) The left rotor might be shot, as well, although I have not actually mic'd it. It seems that my rear brake problem is not that unusual, either. Upon further investigation, I had the sticking problem mentioned in other posts. I just noticed it today, and I don't think it has been going on for long as, being a 6spd, a sticking brake is fairly easy to feel. I think I will try to have the rotors turned and slap on new pads. I have not decided what pads to go with. I am looking for some fairly soft ones & plan on just popping new pads in more often. That has worked on other vehicles to save wear/tear on rotors. I think that lubing the rear caliper slides should be on the 30,000 maintanence cycle for those with rear discs. |
