I had to replace my filterhead at about 45K for the same reason, they called DC and would not replace it under the 7/70, about $150. I do still have the old one in case they issue a recall or something maybe I'll get some of the $$ back

its a 2005 with the original fuel filter i know i know i should have done it along time ago but figured over kill. Right now im having issues and have the filter, walmart white label power clean i think its called and a filter wrench. Which is the bleeder screw? ive seen diagrams but didnt make any sense. Will a 1/2 wrench work for the wif sensor and bleeder screw? Also is it ok to preprime the filter with this power clean service stuff? Its rated at 100 gallons and must be pretty potent stuff is everyone sure its ok for the fuel system. |

Wif sensor is on the bottom of the filter. It just unplugs. Bleed port is on the left side(toward the engine). I just remove the old filter, pump it up, bleed the bleeder, pump it up again. Ready to go. I use the NAPA Wix filter. Around 26 bucks. Steve |

Steve Oh, and it looks nearly identical to a brake bleeder and you'll stay a little cleaner (and be able to see if there's bubbles in the fuel) if you connect up a short section of tubing to the bleeder and drain it into a little bottle or something. The screw itself is either 11 or 13 mm if I recall correctly. I swapped mine out for a valve, so I'm a little rusty on the sizing. |

I read about unpluging down the pages possible fire problem. First off is this under warranty? 2005 crd 40k miles one owner. Now im worried about air getting in the system. I am so so close to hiring an attorney and fighting jeep for a new one. I did figure a way to get the filter off wrap duck tape around the old filter then the wrench has something to bite down on and loosened up enought that i could get my hand on it. Back on the fuel heater yes its chared up and smoke comming out when i start up. |

Changing fuel filter is not covered - but a leaking filter head would be covered - just point to leak and mention that the diesel supposed to stay inside the head not outside. FYI- for about 1 hour of Lawyer time - you can buy a Racor fuel head that will pretty much eliminate this as a problem and still have a unique one of a kind Jeep.... |

But im more pissed off with the jeep dealers than chrysler persay im getting no help. Every time i take the thing in it comes back in worse shape, one dealer did the tranny f37 thingy. Found out a tranny sensor plug was not pluged back in( drove 6 months this way) after also the linkage quit second time i started the jeep( so what else did they screw up not tighten a bolt right or put the case on correct?) up so this dealer really messed things up plus they left the tranny 2 plus quarts low! So who do i trust? Other dealer in SLC did an alignement and lower ball joint recall ever since the jeep pulls to the right and has bump steer plus they damaged my hood that needed repaint of all things. I dont trust any dealers! If worse comes to worse im thinking i could pull the fuel heater plug cut it off and rtv silicone the sensor plug back in. I think this might stop any leakage but i would loose the fuel heating in cold weather. |

I would sue for the full purchase price $26.500 and expect all of it back and am sure i would win but usually they get settled out of court before it gets messy. If chrysler offered a new liberty i wouldnt accept it maybe another diesel though? What other diesels do they make i read that nittro maybe comeout with this option, dodge fulsize,CRD grand. |

My head isn't leaking, I did unplug the heater and in Spokane I have similar weather to you. No heater has not been a problem to date. There are other SLC CRD owners here, perhaps they can help you our here. The filter head should be a warranty item if leaking. |
