Post subject:  Fuel Treatment

I came across this in Diesel Power and looked it up on the web site. I was wondering if this inline fuel treatment has any merits?

I have no experience with these, but it reeks of "snake oil".

Agreed. If it worked, fuel stations would treat the fuel as it's pumped into the vehicle, then advertise based on the improved vehicle performance.

Not that I trust TV but I did see the guys on HorsepowerTV test the Fitch Fuel catalyst, and it showed (per their dyno)a decrease in GPH usage and allowed them to run a lower octane fuel with the same power output. I believe the engine used was the chevy ls7 as the test engine. I have no clue if it will help with our diesel engines or not or with biodiesel for that matter, but if it does I would install one. I would like proof first though, they are kind of expensive.

Wonder what element simultaneously raises a. octane, which reduces self-ignition to prevent knock and ping in a spark-infested engine, and b. cetane, which increases self-ignition to enhance knock and ping in a heat-ignition engine?

Be sure to specify model and engine so you'll get one sized for the correct flow-rate?

Strip a couple stereo speakers for the donut magnets, run your fuel lines thru both magnets, which are coincidentally self mounting, as they'll stick to the steel frame rail.

Caution: use the 3-4" door speakers - if you use the big 12" boomers, you'll need to carry a pump to relieve the fuel tank of the resultant excess fuel..............

Only test I've seen was in one of the diesel mags - they installed it on someone's diesel pickup and ran it for one tank of fuel, said it MIGHT have been responsible for a 1 MPG average increase for that tank. I think that was their way of saying, between the lines and without pissing off a paying sponsor, that the bloody thing didn't work.

I'd take what you see on Horsepower TV and Two Guy's Garage with a grain of salt - they're getting paid to feature these products on their shows. How long do you think they'd be on the air if they started telling the truth and saying "We tested this product and it didn't do crap"?
