Just compared the ScanGageII v3.15 with the scantool - the SGII reads standard OBD2 data in the CRD ECM - the other stuff is Chrysler Enhanced Powertrain data, not available in generic OBD2, which is what SGII reads.

F'rinstance - 755rpm idle fuel rate is ~10mm3, rail pressure is ~5000psi - run it up to 3500rpm and you get ~20mm3 and ~12000psi sitting in the driveway

FYI - the middle hash between 1/4 and 1/2 on the ECT guage is 160degF

Are you saying that the fuel rail pressure cannot be accessed using the SGII? I realize it isn't a 'standard' OBDII accessable value. But this does beg the question of whether the xGauge feature can be programmed to access this data and create a "custom" gauge as described in the SGII manual.

Obviously this would require some knowledge of the PID (and command string) to do this. Something I'm not very familiar with but am willing to research it a bit...

Apparently it is possible for RV owners to access tranny temperatures in this manner. And hybrid owners have figured out how to access things like "remaining battery capacity." Both of these things are not normally OBDII accessible items.

So to access the fuel rail pressure and other metrics from the CRD it might simply be a matter of figuring out the "magic handshake" to query the computer to accomplish this. That is exactly what the xGauge feature is provided to do. And it can be used to define up to 25 custom gauge outputs. While I don't yet know how to customize these xGauges, I am certainly curious about the possibllities they present.

We won't know the benefits unless/until someone cracks the coding to get it done. Surely we have some technically savy folks among us who will take on this challenge!

That is correct - if I set the AUTOENGINUITY scantool for standard OBD2, it reads only the same parameters as the SGII - all the other stuff becomes available only when the scantool is configured for OBD2-enhanced, which has ECM, TCM, BCM, ABS, CCM parameters - reqires a specific DCX enhanced hardware interface for the OBD2 connector - DCX stuff is based on Mitsubishi engine and transmission control, with a smattering of Benz and a whole bunch of Bosch stuff for the Diesels, incl CRD's.

So the auto enginuity has more features then he SCII ???

Autoenginuity is a professional software scantool - does everything the factory scanners do @ ~10% the price - can get versions for PC, Palm PC, and that other little thingy - wouldn't wanna leave one in your vehicle, tho it does display 9 selectable guages at a time, 3 rows x 3 columns full screen

SGII reads the standard OBD2 data, can clear DTC's and the MIL\CEL\SES\ETC - @ 1" x 5", can be left inplace

so this would be the tool to get? and then I assume you have to purchase the Chrysler software add-on?

Yes, you need the scantool and the full Chrysler expansion and, of course, a laptop. If you already have the laptop then this tool definately provides the best bang for the buck. By comparison the SGII is really just a toy.

I have search for a while now for the PIDs needed to use the X-gauge feature on the SG, without much luck.
The TDI guys are on the same search, it seems.

I think we could pester Ron at Linear Logic to publish what PIDs he knows for Jeep, at least.

Maybe Mr Mopar (our inside man) has a way to get this info to us from the source? I will PM him.

I got the scangauge back from Linear..... it is updated with release 3.15

1. Still locks up after a while as usual.

2. Have not found any "Xgauge" addresses for the CRD

3. For the 25$ upgrade, they turned it around in two days, which is good.

Not sure if it was worth 25$
Hoping for , at a minimum, tranny temp, fuel pressure, fuel temp gauges with discovery of addresses

I too have a new Scangauge II (v 3.15) and yes, it locks up with regularity.

I cannot cost-justify this - but I bought myself a DashDyno SPD for Christmas - partly to see if it too locks up on the CRD and partly because it had some additional options for display that the SGII doesn't.

I'll create another thread to highlight the differences I've seen between these two scantools, but thought it noteworthy to say here that the DashDyno SPD does indeed display the Fuel Rail Pressure. It appears to vary just below 5,000psi to ~22,000 psi. Most all of the other SG parameters are duplicated by the DashDyno SPD - with the odd exception that Volts is not a choice on the DashDyno. Dave (of DashDyno) indicated that he thought volts would be added in a future firmware release.

The DashDyno also displays boost pressure in a way that allows you to net out the atmospheric pressure so that it shows PSI gauge pressure.

I sure hope they can fix this. I'm interested in the Scangauge, but I'm not going to spend money until I can turn it on and leave it on without having to restart it or fiddle with it to keep it working. Of course, I'd really rather that Jeep had a correct OBD-II implementation in the first place.

This place sells the Scanguage II for $159. They sell cam,per parts for a VW Eurovans. I also own a EV, not a camper though :wink:
