Plug the MAF back in, cycle through 3 or 4 engine starts (let the engine run for a bit each time). If the check engine light goes out, SEGR is working.

I never disconnected the maf yet. Just bought the jeep. So, should I disconnect it and run before starting? Any way to check once it is installed?

i don't have an segr... but... if it is not in then you can feel what it is like to have it in and go by that... ther is a difference

start the engine...run a hard run to see what it feels like... then unplug the MAF and do it again...

then repeat when it is installed..

hardly scientific but there is a difference... mainly the take off is quicker from what i can tell with the MAF is disconnected

I know my SEGR is working cause I personally cut the wires that control the
EGR valve. But...

It isn't exactly working right because the CEL keeps coming back on.

I get codes for MAF circuit low.
Could be a bad MAF? Could be poor splice connections?

I havent had much time to fully troubleshoot it and I will be away from it for
the next two months.

But it runs good.

It could be a bad MAF, bad MAF wiring into the SEGR, bad SEGR circuit, or maybe your MAF is unplugged. Check the easy stuff like wiring, then bench test the SEGR box -- it's fairly simple. After everything else is verified operational, replace the MAF.

I did continuity checks from each pin connection on the SEGR board to its
corresponding vehicle harness C1, C2, and MAF. All seemed OK.
MAF is plugged in.
Maybe my splices are creating too much resistance? I dont know what the
overall resistance values should be.
I also dont have a 12v power supply for bench testing the box. Besides, I wouldn't
know what to check for if I did.

I had trouble with the wire>. DRkblu/grn which is the MAF wire.
My harness has 2 wires like this same color. I tied into the wrong one,
It was for the low speed fan. LOL. Fan ran all the time the engine was running.
Had to pull it all apart and find the trouble.
I also did continuity checks as you did the first time and all seemed well.
I think maybe that doesn't always tell the story as they may have a common
link somewhere.
Anyhow 2nd time, got it right.

Flash.
Before tearing into again, try cleaning the MAF with sensor cleaner.
That is the easiest place to start.

Thanks Steve,

Cleaning the MAF was the first thing I tried.
Maybe leaving the MAF unplugged for so long (ORM) caused the the connecions
to corrode?

I can tell that the MAF has been replaced before cause there are non-factory
fasteners holding it in.

Did you build the Jumper plug?
If so plug it in and it will go back to the original position and see how things are.

Nope :(
Didnt have enough pins and didnt think I would run into a problem where I
would need it.

Of course, had I built it, I would never need it

I just unpluged my Maf and got the cel on.
Tried restarting 6 times and it never went of, so I turned it off and
cleared the codes with code reader.
If you are the same way, have you tried clearing codes and see if it turns back on?

Okay,

Dumb question but I want to make sure I get this right. When the directions say C1-85 Engine CPU-MAF (which would connect to #2) in (does this mean to connect this wire to the signal coming from the sensor, or going to the CPU?) I hope you understand. I'm trying to figure out for the leads that need to be cut which side to hook the proper wires to. In other words--going to the CPU or going to the sensor. This part is not real clear to me.

Okay,

Think I got it figured out. On gmctd's explanation he says "to ecm". This must mean that wire goes "to" the ecm. Thanks for that gmctd!!!

Hey Pete,

Sorry for the late response. You are correct. Also take a look at the wiring diagram at http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ingbs8.gif

Also lots or reading on the SEGR builders thread
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... ad&start=0

I wll help all I can as well, I'll just still be traveling for a couple more days, but will answer pm's when I can get to some wireless access.
