Well, it's prolly exorbitantly expensive from Dodge, but maybe not so from Cummins - that's a Fleetguard head with a Carter lift pump - and you still may have problems with the plastic fuel line connections back at the tank, but they shouldn't be so problematical, with the lift pump between the tank and the filter head - the KJ's main fuel problems arise because the lift pump is post-head, with the fuel manager head being the highest point in the system - air city, and then some.

I tell ya - it would really be helpful to have a friend or two in the DCJ system

FYI - the in tank pump is a clean neat approach - but it's not the only one - There are a couple of Kennedy installs
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=23117
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=252953&highlight=#252953
http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/kennedy.htm

and the Facet
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=24527&highlight=facet

all were effective - the combo of Lift pump and new fuel head should give you a safety margin
also the Racor may be a lot closer to a simple bolt on than the Cummins
http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/racor.htm

again not as neat a system as making it look like a Cummins - but they work.

Good input - all efforts are appreciated

FYI, the filter element is p\n 5015581AA

Two heads are available: one has 90deg tab for top-mounting, other is for side-mounting, like the KJ head - 90deg tab can be sawed off to allow side-mounting - either type will need to be redrilled to match bolt pattern on KJ bracket

Likely won't find the unit with the attached lift pump, as that was obsoleted by DCJ in '04 under Recall TSB - parts may still be available, scattered about, maybe on eBay

And now, for something completely different.....................

New vacancy - residency applications now being accepted...........
Image

Evicted...........
Image

Let's twist again, like we did last summer, babeusz.........
Image

Under new management............
Image

Seeking: non-volatile fuel for possible long-term relationship...........
Image

First, note the ease of filter replacement...........

Second, note the increased crowding in the limited real estate - maybe not for those who like wide open spaces.......

Third, note the ease of filter replacement...........

DCJ filter element p\n is listed right on the MOPAR label - easily cross-ref'ed to Baldwin, Wix, Napa Gold, etc.

Now, note the second set of holes lined up across the top with the oem pair - those will center the head to allow the head-mounted fuel pump to clear the brake vacuum-booster, but sorta crowds the WIF valve (yellow handle) toward the intake manifold - as you can see, I then used the oem left-most hole by installing a matching companion

Also, the dufuses at DCJ attached the mounting bracket to the KJ firewall at an angle, off-vertical (that is an optical illusion in the pic), so you'll need to offset the 'booster-side hole lower to level the head.

Give the steel inlet fuel line a 90deg twist toward the brake booster, route the rerouted line behind the mounting bracket to meet the shortened inlet fitting on the side of the head adjacent the brake booster

Shorten the outlet fitting, shorten the rubber hose to the CP3, attach thereunto and clamp - the fuel outlet is bottom center, beneath the cannister

The ABS brake lines will need a little massaging for adequate clearance - or, the bosses intended for attaching a lift pump could be sawed off, further reducing real estate requirements - I left them in-place for future R&D.

Fuel Heater will require Dodge Cummins connector

WIF sensor will require DC connector

Inlet Fuel Temp Sensor may be pruned from the puck (see What the puck, over!, here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=31256), for clamping to the side of the head - or rounded, threaded, inserted into one of the isolated return fuel ports, either side of the head - or see retmil46's thread on replacement 2k thermister from Omega\equiv

Alternately, IAT or ECT sensors from any DCJ vehicle are compatible, and usually found in a threaded fitting with the correct connector - hit yer local boneyards fer a fair sampling of such wonders (nab the connector and wires, just in case)..............

Did I mention ease of filter replacement..................

I've got one of those sitting around my garage. It is off my 01 left over from my FASS install. It's a good housing, but the best filteration availble is 7micron, so I elected to get a Stanadyne FM100 with 2 mic. filtration for the libby. It's waiting for the install.

GMCTD: It looks like you are on a slow quest to put a Cummins in the Liberty  . I can't wait to see what comes next :D

Just got back from a discouraging bout with MrMoparts, not that he didn't try, just the results were not up to (Mo)par

The Fleetguard WIF sensor, just two conductors straight-thru the o-ringed plastic connector, bare on both ends = 182 bucks
the connector pigtail kit is spec-order = 38 bucks

The Fleetguard thermostat\heater connector pigtail does not appear to be available

The Dana80 pinion-yoke washer is 7 bucks, 10-day b.o.

The plastic plug-sert fasteners used to attach various panels, accessories, etc, to the body are 'not serviced separately', gotta buy the accessory to get the little baggie full of plastic push-ins

All-in-all, a big ZILCH, on top of all that expensive fuel wasted, with even more to be wasted hittin' the local boneyards - Friday the 13th musta came late, this month................

Almost fergot: nope, no CTD for the little mule - the VM\DD 2.8L is more engine than anyone can currently use, way over-powering the small chassis once we get a hot-flash worked out for ECM and TCM

JD,
Sometimes effort is not enough. The parts guy I just went to, tucked it to me, but he knew his parts very well. In my experience 1 in 10, maybe we are just malcontents, looking for Mrs. Goodparts.

What is a CTD? I know what a STD is; Been there, done that, got the T shirt.

Correct, Trevor: the Cummins 5.9L 360cuin medium-duty Turbo-Diesel engine - this was more of a hoity-toity Hemi-dealer - had'em everywhere, even sittin' on a engine-stand behind the parts counter - lovely little beastie, but a real man needs a noisy, stinky engine that reeks of Diesel Fuel, eh......................

would a 5.9 fit in the liberty?

there is nothing like the cold clatter and the smell of a diesel in the morning.

Our 2.8 barely fits, and it is a v4 design. The 5.9 Cummins is an inline 6, lots longer than our powerplant.

There are smaller Cummins options though. I just saw a 1980's Toyota Landcruiser for sale that had been converted to a Cummins 4 banger diesel, with a really funky heavy duty transmission borrowed from some peice of heavy equipment (something like 8 forward gears and 2 or 3 reverse).
