Post subject:  Best CRD lift lit value

Guys,

I have studied this forum front to back and have come away with a huge amount of info. Thank you.

What is your pick for a lift kit for my CRD. I want to run 245's and do no trimming.

Thanks

Tom

Budget, Daystar 2" or 2.5" spacer lift < $200, without struts and shocks, but you have a 2005, so might as well replace the struts and shocks while your at it. Figure another $250-$300 for shocks and struts.

A lot better but about $600-$700 Old Man Emu 2" spring lift with shocks and struts

The biggest lift you can get today would be the Frankenlift II for CRD, about $1200, plus you really should replace upper control arm UCA from jeepinbyal.com so you can align the front end. So your talking about $1500-$1600.

all prices are estimates.

I have the 2" Daystar lift and am running 245/75 R16.

I have never ridden on anything other than stock or FLII but I have the FLII with Als uppers and it is premo..Cost an arm and leg but if you plan on keeping the rig I wouldnt think twice about it. Miles of travel, good ride, and looks to boot. I have had a little too much steam heading into a washout or ditch (Im in Iowa, no rock climing here, lot of terrace climbing etc though..) thinking I was going to break something or at least bottom out and that is where I felt I was getting my money's worth. The travel over stock is impressive considering the limitations of the KJ. A little stiff over the measly stuff on the road/parking lot/etc (I have HD all around) but it is a Jeep.. Like I have said, I have never ridden on a cheaper lift, but at this point I guess I wouldnt be interested anymore...that is all Ive got.

Anything other than the CRD Frankenlift is a disaster waiting to happen. By running the the Daystar or similar kits you will where out your suspension. I only speak from experience. Also the Frankenlift will outperform all the other lift kits on and offroad.

I agree the OME components are a better solution.

however there's no reason a Daystar should wear components beyond normal rates - it spaces the spring higher and adds a slight preload (only slight because the Daystar top plate removes some of the pressure).

Post subject:  OME lift

I just had the OME kit installed on Friday and all I can say is :D :D

I went with OME 790 CRD springs in the front and The medium duty springs in the back as we do not tow with this Liberty.

I put Rancho shocks and struts all the way around...

The total lift is about 2 inches and the ride is night and day different.

I would have to vote for the Frankenlift II CRD version, Al's A Arms, and Moog Lower ball joints (Al's already has moogs in the A Arms).

Just got all of this installed this week. Man, the ride is great. More firm without being a lumber wagon ride. Feels more like what the CRD should have had from the factory. The Axle shafts are now more in line with the differential. And 245/75R16's will fit fine with NO trimming.

The A arms were a bit of a pain to install only in that working in the tight Liberty. Since my life is rather full anyway, I decided to have the kit and A arms installed by a local hot rod shop. From the adventure they had doing it, you better be prepared for a long job if doing all of this yourself. The lift kit alone is not too much of a problem, but when you add the A arms and ball joints, it becomes a major project.

Overall, am extremely happy with the setup. If you are looking for a budget deal, this ain't it. But, as with many things, you get what you pay for. Worried I was spending a lot more than I needed, but have no regrets. Took the Liberty through the cornfields and pastures on my place and there is a definate improvement in handling and sure footedness. Never had a bottom out even when hitting some erosion washouts. crossing some rough railroad tracks near our house, the liberty took the bumps far better and didn't feel so mushy in the front end. Taking corners, it leans less.

Try it, I believe you will like it.

OME gives the best ride...like a different vehicle. You can buy just the parts for just under $800.00 plus shipping. Make sure you get the rear OME with the "L" for long travel

I'll probably do all OME too. It seems to me that if you are going to do all that work, you might as well spend a few hundred more and do it once, rather than upgrading later. I have read a lot of good stuff on the Rancho's too. So, Rancho/OME or all OME? I don't know yet. I don't think I'll have a chance to lift mine until summer so I have a little time to decide. Any personal input on these set ups would be helpful to me (and others that may be pondering). Any suggestions on where to get the best pricing on OME would be most appreciated too.!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but what I can make of the info given on boulderbars.com the CRD Frankenlift is nothing more then a pre-assembled OME kit. Nothing more nothing less.

You're cheapier of if you just buy the parts and fit them yourself.

I will be lifting my CRD soon as well. I'm going with the following:

Frankenlift II w/o the rear springs
Custom rear HD springs from Australia
Billstein 10" S/B gas shocks w/ custom valving (for the rear)
Al's upper arms

Once I get those pieces fitted I'll be working with the rear triangle and rear links....some HD joints, a new rear tiangle and DOM arms are needed greatly along with some limiting straps. This little truck has the potential to be bullet proof no doubt!

I am curious however about photos. Esthetically I'd like to see what peoples rigs look like after their lifts with different tire size combo's. I'm thinking of going with a 265 on an 17" wheel as of right now.

Anyone care to post something different?
