I took he libby in for some misc work this week. Front window regulators, bad vent, tranny shudder, fuel smell, door rattle... They replaced the regulators since they were coming apart, replaced my bad vent, fixed some door clips, and struck out on the biggies. They couldn't smell fuel and didn't see a leak... They said that My tranny shudder is a driveline vibration caused by my aftermarket liftkit. Ya right. They reflashed my ecu and sent it home. I can't get it to shudder anymore, but I also cant get above 17 PSI boost. I used to see 20-21. If they took the turbo out completely, my tranny would be fine... Why do you bother to get a warrenty? Guess I'll take it back when it doesn't go at all anymore. Travis |

They can't smell or see a leak - because it's a vacuum system - the leak is air into the fuel - not fuel out of the system. best you can hope for is to pull the heater plug and if it's wet from diesel - explain that it's not supposed to be. although the 17lbs of pressure sounds strange - is that Scangauge? - 17lbs absolute i.e. includes standard pressure (14psi atmospheric)- means you only have 3 psi of boost - that's what mine did when it blew a turbo hose. now 17 lbs of boost i.e. 31 lbs total - would be well above anything I've seen. so I'm wondering if they forgot to connect something. |

I have a boost guage in the hose coming from the turbo before it hits the intercooler. I'm gonna go flog it later tonight and see if I can hit 20 PSI with the OD off. I wonder what flash they did, as I had the F37 done in March of last year along with a new TC. Lovin DCX, Travis |

Your boost numbers do seem low, but then again, with my scangauge I have been seeing MAP readings of a steady 33-34psi while towing, and spikes as high as 37psi... But normal driving without towing, it's in the vicinity of 28-30. Subtract 14 from each of those, leads to boost of 19-20 towing, 23 spike, and 14-16 not towing. I'd say thats about average for the VNT systems I've seen (VW Jetta) and I'm quite happy with it. I do think that the KJ could be a little more powerful, but not in the boost department! General safety tip: If you are hauling and see boost numbers like mine, with extended durations (longer than a few minutes) be sure to let your engine idle for a good 5-10 minutes after you get where you are going to let the oil cool that turbo down. It will probably be GLOWING hot. Asking that little 4-banger to move over 11,000 lbs total and still get 18mpg... Gotta love it. I can't imagine what a beauty it will be after I get the Suncoast and Inmotion into it. One thing I do think I will be doing fairly soon... Opening up that exhaust system a bit, like poking the cat out and possibly a mufflerectomy. |
