Rear bottoming out every bump in the road. 45k miles and the shocks feel like they are shot, or is something else going on with the rear suspension on my CRD? Nothing looks broken so I'm guessing the factory shocks took a dump. |

At least they aren't struts and can easily be changed. Do you have the trailer tow package? I wonder if you get heavy duty shocks with the trailer tow and they last a little longer? At 57k mine seem ok. |

In the cold weather the shocks are useless, front and rear. The jeep is a cold brick in the winter, in the summer its fun though. |

I totally agree with this. It is always fun to think about how it will start in the cold weather, with that grinding noise, followed by rambling engine and knocking pistons..

My vote is the shocks were bad from the factory and were only on there to keep the suspension together on the trailer ride... Ranchos are good - OME's are better - All-J's has both. |

Ranchos are good - OME's are better - All-J's has both. Thanks ATXKJ. What's the most wife-friendly all-around street upgrade for an unlifted CRD? Quality of suspension is important; off-road prowess is not. - Chris |

That depends on the wife...... could be better seats, better sound system, grocery carrier racks in the back (the ones so that things don't fall over) from just a vehicle performance standpoint - good tires would be my 1st suggestion - something that has traction in the rain. |

Shocks are most likley OK, mine rides like a lumber wagon when it gets cold. Rregular ride returns when the temp warms above freezing. |

The rear bottoms out running empty, no added weight what so ever. When I get groceries might as well be ridding on the bump stops, there is no rear suspension just BAM BAM BAM over every little bump. My 5 star dealer said to fix the problem I should reduce the air presure down to 20 psi for winter driving, does this sound safe? not to me. |

Sounds exactly like mine. It has been below 0 for the past week here and I swear that all 4 shocks were stolen during the night. |

I've had this problem all last winter and this winter too. Its the nature of the beast, stock. I don't know if its the coils or the shocks that are to blame though. |

That is interesting! I have noticed a difference too. Some speed bumps make my bumpstops go into action and some did not. Even the same speedbump sometimes did and sometimes didn't. Will look more after temperature when getting the oomfy ride. |

My ride doesn't change much with weather. I suspect if you don't have the trailer tow package you have hydrolic shocks, the oil gets stiff when it gets cold. The trailer tow package probaly gives gas charged shocks. Just a guess |

I Don't have the tow package but tonight noticed that I bottomed out at low speed on an on ramp where I never bottomed out before. Crazy huh? I used to have an old Audi 4000 that had bad seals on the shocks and water had gotten into them. As soon as the temp dropped below freezing it was like the axles were bolted directly to the frame. |
