I took option #3. Wait for a later model Libby or Wrangler diesel option.

Why change a gas powered car for a diesel one exactly the same? You get a loss from dealing in and you save a little bit on consumption figures. I would hold on to the gas powered KJ and wait for a better, newer model.

Do the math properly, calculate the gas economy vs diesel economy and ask yourself how much that loss is worth going from the petrol model to the diesel one.

Yes it is easy to be seducted by the sound of a diesel and the torque. Just don't do something costly and regret it afterwards. You need that carrot at the end of the tunnel.

Had diesel been 10% cheaper than gas in the states as it is in my country, I would have changed ASAP because of economy (well I would never have bought the gasser in the first place!).

Knowing what you know now, would you still buy a CRD? And be honest! I bought a 2005 CRD Sport the first time and it was in the shop way too much! At the time, I needed a reliable vehicle for my wife, so I had no choice but to get rid of it. After the F37 recall, we still had problems. I admit, I got real nervous and traded the CRD for a 3.7L. Now, after reading your threads, it looks like you guys have by-passed or corrected many of the problems with the CRD. So, am I safe to buy one again and have the confidence that it could be a reliable vehicle that I could keep well into the future?

Yes, I'd buy ahother CRD but only if it was a later model 06 model. Ours has only had a glow plug go bad in 37k miles and the only mods are a Kennedy pump, Racor fuel filter, Provent CCV, and and unplugging the MAF sensor which disconnects the EGR. We've been extremely happy with our Liberty

I bought the CRD to replace two vehicles a truck and a VW 1.9 Turbo Diesel Jetta. The bean counter cost cutting like the lack of a lift pump and a few other items are the only disappointments. Steve

NO. I traded a 2000 F-250 Super Duty 6 speed standard(2 1st gears) 2 wheel drive that was paid off for my 05 CRD. The F-250 was a towing beast that got 16 mpg towing a 4500# TT at 65-70 mph. Only trouble was that it got stuck in 1/4 inch of mud or snow. Too much torque for wet conditions, but on dry pavement it had no equal. Should have kept the truck and bought a new VW TDi.

Yup. Only (real) issues I had was 3 of the glow plugs going bad in the first 6 months of ownership.

Actually, I'm glad I didn't know then what I know now...I held out and walked away from the offered "deals" at the dealership three times before finally talking them down to a minor "loss" scenario based solely on the fact that it had been on their lot so long. If I'd known how great a truck this could be, I probably would have only walked away once or twice.

Yes but. The first year I was saying Oh shoot, I have an Edsel here. Every time I would turn around I was back at the dealer. I stumbled upon this Forum by accident searching the net for Liberty problems and Wowwie, these people here have the answers. I was to the looking stage at other vehicles and soooo glad now, that I keep her. I think most of the trade ins are the people that dumped it because of all the problems with it. Just like I was contemplating doing. I would buy another but not without this Forum help. The dealers just replace parts but don't fix the problems. Steve

Loved it so much I couldn't wait to get that 2.8 and went with the KJ until the JKs are old enough for me to afford them. Well, probably I won't be able to buy it anyway because of kids and family life...

Pick yourself up another one. Clean out all the gunk internally, do the mods, good to go. Lots better than that gassier
