I cleaned the MAP today and it was hardly dirty.
History of this being clean.
Sept 07 22,500 Last cleaning
Nov 07 23,900 EHM
Jan 08 26,150 SEGR
Feb 08 27,645 Cleaned MAP

I am a firm believer that these Mods work

Looks good -- I'll have to check mine. It's been about 4k miles since I first cleaned my MAP and installed the CCV mod. And 2k since the SEGR was installed.

good to see an "after" photo. Here is mine at 24.5K miles:

I rigged up this EHM with catch can to keep my new driveway pavers oil-free. It was originally installed on the TDI the black elbow is unecessary on this app. It is an interim solution until:
1. SEGR is installed
2. wife judges whether EHM stink is acceptable

It's evidently getting soot from somewhere. Do you think that the coating on there is from before your mods? Your pic is about the same as mine looked after 10k with the ORM.

honey_don't,

because of the filter in you EMH you can hook it back up where it is supposed to
go and should be free of oil in your intake and the smell around the car

Yeah, thats how I had it installed on the TDI. This catch can still lets some oil vapor through so I figured I'd experiment with the Elephant hose layout, it was easier too. If the smell is too bad I'll add some SS scouring pad and reroute to the intake. Most likely, the permanent install will use either a provent or tdiwagonguy catch can.

Has anyone used a water trap for air compressors as a type of provent?

i believe there will always be soot build-up on the MAP due to turbo bearing blow-by. The SEGR and CCV bypass will certainly aid but not eliminate our condition. again this is my belief which is based solely on my OWN observed situation.

The turbo blowby if any, will be an oily film not soot or tar.

I kinda like the idea of that catch you have on there. I might
experiment on that idea.
If your hose from the CCV was a little higher, just before it bends, I think more oil
would drain back where it belongs.
Just for thought.

good idea Steve, I will mess around with the orientation.

FYI, my catch can is a ShurFlo water separator, I bought it at West Marine for ~$22

That's what I wanted to know.

I have a ccv filter on order from TDIWagonGuy, who has been making them for VW's for years. I'll post a report on the install.

edit: TDI forum won't let me link to a picture.

I would agree any blowby will be in the form of oil, but eventually that oil will foul our sensors, SEGR or not. I have been pulling my turbo to CAC tube regularly and notice an unusual amount of oil.

I'm done cleaning my MAP. I pulled it last week and it was virtually spotless with only a whisp of oil on it. Disabling the EGR and using a Provent CCV has fixed the problem as far as I am concerned.

I just pulled my MAP out today for a cleaning as the Jeep turned 10,000 miles since I installed the SEGR (46,000 total miles). There was just a light coating of oil on it, and not a hint of any kind of soot (like the previous cleaning before the ORM I did around 15,000 miles). I couldn't be happier! :D
Bottom line, a little over 30,000 miles without EGR, and everything is dandy.

BTW, I'm still using the stock CCV. When I do an oil change, I just put 6 quarts in and leave it that way.
