Well has anyone noticed that the CRDs are coming from the factory equipped with the front skid plate AND inner CV boot shields?? I thought that was really cool! No where on the window sticker did it say anything about that. But with the extra $2000 you get the CRD engine, Selec-Trac, alum. wheels, fog lights, 5-speed automatic, AND front skid plate with CV boot shields! That is so cool!

Now here is the odd part.. They gave us the front skid plates from the factory, but they failed to install a tranny skid to protect that oil filter than hangs down almost to the ground!! Weird or what?

It's like they did something really cool for us, and something really stupid all at the same time.

A fuel tank skid plate wouldn't hurt either!

You're right. To finish off you'll need 3 more skids. The Tranny Skid, T-Case Skid and the Fuel Tank Skid. All easy to install. If you only want to (or can only afford) one skid at a time, I recommend the Tranny Skid. You gotta protect that oil filter.

Actually the $2000 is over the base 4cyl not over the optional V6. If you spec out a V6 with all the same options on a CRD the V6 would be more expensive. Also the CRD was a $2,800 option for 05 Liberty's.

The OEM T skid plate is not available as yet through dealer till Nov is what I have been told by two different dealers, the gasser skid plates are different and do not fit a CRD I was told. Wonder if the OEM T plate has a opening for getting at the filter as well as the drain plug???

Well that's a bunch of crap because I already have the tranny skid on my CRD! I've had it for months. It has provisions for the oil filter and drain plug. It was only $28.00 at the dealer.

And I don't see why the gas tank won't work because it's identical to the V6 gas tank.

Currently (as of today, Oct 26 2005) the CRD engine is, in the build and price section of the Jeep website for the 2005 models, a $1240 option when compared to the V6 on a 4x4 Limited with G package.

I configured two, exactly the same as the one I own.

The CRD had two options included standard that had to be added to the V6, which is the ABS for $600 and the block heater for $50, and the CRD is only available with the 5 speed auto, and the 3.7L with the 4 speed auto...

The MSRP:
3.7L: $30,880
CRD: $31,480

The CRD is $600 more than the 3.7L for the 2005 model.

Now consider the factory authorized deals (this is NOT dealership deals, we can't count those because they vary dealership to dealership - this is factory only):

CRD $2000 cash rebate
3.7L $3000 cash rebate

So as of today, on a 2005 model CRD, you are - dealership dealing not withstanding - you are paying $1600 more based on MSRP for a CRD.

Now, my dealership matched the rebates for the gasser on the CRD, and also gave it to use at invoice. I don't know what they were doing for the gasser because I was frankly, not interested... :) I also got an additional incentive for financing through Chrysler, which I do not see if it is available now, but I do not believe it was tied to any particular model...

On the 2006 Limited 4x4 G package, the CRD is only a $965 option.

I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to build out two whole packages with the 2006 and see what happens, since I already own a 2005 CRD.

:)

You forgot or didn't notice, but the Alloy Wheels are a $800 option on the V6 Sport as it comes standard with Steel wheels.

Selec-Trac = $400
ABS = $600
Wheels = $800
5-speed auto. = $895
Fog lamps = $150 (guessing)
Skid plate = $50
Block heater = $50

What else am I missing? That is $2,945 worth of options right there alone that come standard with the $1,800 diesel engine package! And that doesn't even include the extra cost that DCX has to invest in the engine!

The CRD package is an AWESOME deal!! I didn't even realize how good of a deal it was when I bought mine! I was just in love with that rattle coming from under the hood! :o

Put some B10 in the tank and that rattle under the hood will almost disappear. :D

Well, my excuse is this is the town where I was born and raised.

After 20 years, wanted to spend some time back around family and old friends before moving on to something else if I decided to. Retired back in '97, so still a relatively young pup.

If you consider that I retired out in WA state (11 of 20 years out there), I did get a fair distance from the pier. :)

Maybe DC thought that, with all that torque, we'd just push everything out of the way with the front skid.

Rocky Road just released their one-size underbelly skid and they even made it to fit our CRDs!! http://www.rocky-road.com/kjskidplate.html

Anyone know where to get the OEM skids without breaking the bank?

I'm in VAB and I think I'm the only one here who is not active/reserve/ex Navy. This place is the BEST!! I'm at the beach, my coworker/dogsitter is a CPO/CTO, the townhouse I rented before buying was owned by a Lt. in the SeALs (who I'm still friends with), and I get to watch the jets fly around Oceana while I run my smoker in the backyard. I can only hope BRAC doesn't take away my spectator sport.

I purchased my Limited CRD in April. It was manufactured in March. It came with all the skip plates, including the gas tank. I think if you get the 'Offroad Package', all that is included.

Same here and I'm hoping to really retire in about 2 years to NM or AZ where the dry weather is more suitable to my arthritis.

Where do you get the $1,800 figure from? Jeeps web site shows the same as what was on my sticker. 2,560 (1,240 for the Limited) for the CRD package plus $895 for the five speed auto.

You have added in the tranny into your calculations as if it's included with package. But it is charged seperately. The package for the Limited is cheeper because some of the options are already included in the base price.

Not really true. The tranny is *not* charged seperately for a Limited, according to Jeep's site on a 2005 as of today, Friday Oct 28.

One strange thing is that on a Sport model with the "C" package, the *only* engine package you can choose is the CRD. ???

The 2006 might be different.
