I came here tonight just to discuss this exact issue. I (was) a two-foot driver for years and did with my 2005 CRD. I began to have acceleration problems followed by the red lightning bolt of chaos and random acceleration/deceleration.

Came here, read up and stopped driving like that. Cleaned my dirty MAP sensor. Better, but still get the red lightning bolt.

I'll change out the fuel filter, any other suggestions? Have I messed up the programming by two-footing it?

I dont know much about the red lightning bolt. I did read somewhere that the stock crd tunes dont allow throttle input when the brake is depressed, but I can't confirm that. There might have been noticable impacts during actual two footed driving, and some additional brake wear, but I have a hard time believing that is the cause of the problems you are having now. You could try to reset the ecm by disconnecting the battery for a time. You could also consider performing a transmission quick learn.

This is curious to me, as I just did some driveway testing of both foot driving, and have had no lights at all. I’ve also used both feet driving off road for the “poor mans posi” technique and also had no lights or probs at all. It will allow you to add lots of torque while brake is pressed for sure, unlike my sprinter which will not.

I do not believe your driving pattern has anything to do with the Lightning bolt red light the pedals themselves do go bad I have had to replace one and had another that set for a long time before I bought it and the pedal cause the light but after working it a lot I supposed it self cleaned some contacts and now works . Other most likely issue is a wiring short or poor connection. I think the pedal assemblies are around $120 by pure memory. Also a long time ago PappaIndigo had one he could sell me when I thought i had a bad one but haven't seen him post in awhile. He sold his CRD but think his son still has one. You might email or pm him.

So the chaos continues...

I changed out the MAP sensor, new fuel filter.

Unhooked the battery to Reset? the system? Went to re hook it up and a mouse wandered across the engine bay. So mice.

It only seems to have problems when the engine is warmed up, although the accelerator seems to run without foot pressure a lot before that.

Mice and vehicle wires can make for some very bad issues. :grim:

Exactly, I have had several problems with mice but mostly with ones I bought that already had the problem. BTW there is a "Mouse Mod" but it won't help wiring much. Its where you put screen over air intake to keep them from nesting in air box and chewing on air filter. I had one that had a mouse? nest there when I bought it.

Just thought I'd complete the record.

My local shop replaced the accelerator assembly and the problem has been solved.

Thanks for posting the final fix, glad you got it figured out and repaired.

As to mice problem,
FYI, Mice, squirrel, and rodent deterrent spray for vehicles is available on Amazon and many other places.
