Post subject:  Pending P0101 and SEGR

I have had the SEGR installed now for at least 1000 miles, and I have been checking my codes upon destination for any drives longer than 5 miles. It almost always it passes with no codes. Twice on my way to work though (a 30 mile trip), I have gotten a PENDING P0101 code on my scanner (Actron CP9175). This time I took freeze frame data. Does any of this mean anything to anyone?

Frame 1 Mod $12

DTC that caused freeze frame: P0101
Engine RPM: 988 RPM
Load Value: 0.0%
Air Flow Rate: 7.66 GR/SEC
MAP Sensor: 97 KPA
Coolant Temp: 158 F
Intake Air Temp: 62 F
Vehicle Speed: 42 MPH

At the time of driving, the outside air temperature was probably about 35 F, plus or minus a degree.

I'm not all too concerned about the code, since it's only a pending code, but is the SEGR known to exhibit this behavior once in a blue moon? Maybe it can almost always, but not always fake out the computer that everything on the MAF front is all happy?

I plan on tucking the SEGR out of plain sight this weekend, so just want to make sure this behavior is acceptable maybe once every 70 trips on my way back and forth to work.

For the record, I am not getting a CEL or any other codes, just this pending P0101 on very rare occasions. The only common characteristic to both trips is that both days the outside temperature was in the thirties and both days I left immediately after starting the engine (sometimes I let it idle while I let the dogs outside).

I'd be inclined to try running the bypass plug for a month to see if the pending P0101 would still show up, but before the SEGR mod, my buddies P0299 and P0401 (both pending, I believe) were more than an occasional problem. I also don't recall ever getting the P0101 before the SEGR mod, so I kind of think it is related to how the SEGR modifes the MAF signal.

In any case, thanks for any input.

Do that freeze-frame thingy each time that occurs, for several more times, to have more data for comparison\analysis - pending just means that a fault occured at least once, but less than the prerequisite for setting the DTC - if it doesn't reoccur, the DTC will not set

Yeah, I wish I would have thought to try the freeze frame the first time it happened, but I just said to myself, "it must be a fluke" and just left it at that. Once it occurred again weeks later, I decided I should actually look at the freeze frame.

I think I'll still hide the SEGR away in the kickpanel for now, but keep the scanner plugged in for at least another month. If the pending code happens again, I'll post what the freeze frame data says at that time.

Like you said, it'd be nice to have comparison data, especially to see if a set of similar/dissimilar circumstances cause the pending P0101 to occur.

Thanks for the advice.
