sorry if this cant be posted here, move where needed. question on the cummins diesel in the dodge trucks, figured maybe some of you crd guys may have one as well. pulled up next to a 2004 or so 3/4 ton truck with the cummins in it at a red light. i knew he had some sort of muffler, it was LOUD. he took off. as he let off the skinny pedal to shift gears you could hear the turbo spooling down, almost louder than the 8" pipe coming out the back, a serious wind down like you sometimes here modded turbo 4 bangers do x 1000. curious what the mod was on the turbo to make that sound. is it a bigger down pipe, a larger turbine, or what. |

He may have had a dual turbo set-up,like this pic shows......... ![]() Or his exhaust was to big for his engine and /or power mods.A bigger exhuast is not always better,to big and it will hurt you more then help. |

dont know if it was dual turbo, but the hissing sound was of the high performance variety. that is awesome though. sounded kind of like alot of backpressure build up. ive heard it on performance v8's with a turbo set up. i dont know.. haha. wish i could find a sound clip. ill look online tonight. |

You were hearing a combination of the turbine spinning down thru that large straight exhaust pipe, plus the sound of a barely air-filtered compressor - an air filter\airbox really muffles the siren song, and your configuration with the intake ducting pointing straight forward with inlet beyond the radiator bulkhead also reduces the audio experience - plus, if he was jacked, you were hearing sounds normally muffled as they get lost between the street and the floor pan - the turbine is easily heard at the rear of both my GMC (with the large Ford ss exhaust system) and the Dodge, with the 4" ss aftermarket exhaust, not so much inside, tho - and both have the oem factory air-box for longevity and reliability |
