Hi all. First time posting, long time viewing. I’m at 35,000 miles with 0 issues on my 2006 CRD. From reading all the posts in here I’m a little scared of what might happen to my little diesel in the future. Should I go with the extended warranty or not? And if I do, should I go with the dealer or a 3rd party warranty company? Thanks

We went with a 7 year/100k mile Max-Care warranty. It cost a little over $2000. We're already halfway towards breaking even due to a turbo replacement at 40k miles.

I'd go for the DC warranty. I was able to get the 6yr/100,000 MAX-CARE on my 05 for a little over $1500 from a dealer on the web.

I will second the DC warranty. It covers a car rental. Mine is also half paid for due to trans problems.

I normaly don't buy extended warranties but I did for the CRD. Go for it. The Chrysler warranty is cheaper if you buyy it online.

I printed the cheapest warranty quote I could find online, then took it into my local dealer. They matched the price, plus I think they are friendlier when they remember that you let the money go into their pockets instead of someone else's.

2X  I go the 7/70 maxicare. As I remember it's the only one that covers the ERG valve.

I went for the 7/100,000 maxcare I think (it was the most expensive one.) I love the CRD but wouldn't leave home with out the extended warranty.
Just had the injectors replaced under the factory warranty would have cost over $3000 out of pocket.

Hi Bovie,

Wow. What mileage was this done at, and what were the symptoms?

Has anyone had any problem with claims using a third party? I’d figure you could get away with doing more mods through a third party.

basically anything possible to avoid paying

I see some of you guys have mods done, how is that affecting you DC warranty. I want to get the DC MaxCare but I want to do a lift, bigger tires, TC, etc in the near future.

Welcome to LOST

Mods kill the warranty on the part you mod and anything directly affected by the mod - i.e. a lift will kill the warranty on the struts/springs and will be very suspect if the CV joints go out - but shouldn't have any effect on the engine or transmission.

The concern is that this tends to be a dealership call and if you disagree you might have to go to court to fight - the worse case secenario was Drharv who replaced the stock fuel filter with a CAT and ended up paying several thousand to replace an injector pump - along with the troubleshooting expenses.

one concern needs to be is the dealership any good? - if they don't know how to troubleshoot a diesel they will blame all problems on the mod.
Some folks are so ticked off at the dealer that they won't go near one - so there's no value in a warranty.

another issue - on lifts - did the dealership sell lifted Jeeps? - several do around here - that doesn't mean they'll warranty your lift - but at least they understand what is/is not due to the lift.

So much of the effectiveness of the warranty is - how well do you and your dealer get along?
