"Rumor has it that mopar performance is working on a diesel engine swap kit for 1997 to 2006 Jeep Wranglers. If it's true, we expect the details to be released at this year's Moab Easter Jeep Safari. Our guess is that the kit will be based on the 2.8L VM Motori four-cylinder diesel that was offered in the Jeep Liberty. If successful, the 2.8L crate engine may lead mopar to offer other diesel engines (did somebody say Cummins?) for larger vehicles in the future."

You can thank Burnsville Offroad in Burnsville MN for that, they have been doing CRD swaps into TJ's ,then again they will swap about any engine into your Jeep for the right amount of $$$,even a Viper V-10.Dan the owner is highly regarded in the offroad/SEMA community, very nice guy also I've talked to him before and he may be doing a engine swap in my KJ.

(by the way his Viper TJ is rumered to be for sale)

Glad to see Jeep doing this, also hear they are making an offroad SRT group that will sell Jeeps from the factory with Rubicon Express lifts.

These are all good moves here.

The new JK's have a VM motor ( I believe with a 545RFE) so its not like we were totally abandoned. They just need to get it stateside.

So, a JEEP Wrangler 2.8L, VM Motori would be related (cousin) to the Liberty CRD, therefore the Wrangler diesel should still be considered a LOST member, and the L.O.S.T. Forum/Community/Family would be happy to take on this new addition! Right Forum Administrators and Darby (founder of LOST)??? :D I fully believe in adoption. Surely, we wouldn’t want to discriminate against our own kind? Right? :D

I control the spice.

I have foreseen the future.

I cannot see any positives for me from this.

If I remember right the 2.8 CRD to TJ swap cost $24,000,but that included a new engine, new tranny(545RFE),and abunch of modified parts,oh and labor.I'm sure if Jeep comes out with the same set-up that Dan uses it'll be cheaper, maybe $10,000-$14,000 for a complete kit with a new engine, tranny, and the required parts, but then you got labor if you do not install yourself.

Sounds like Rocklizardfabrications might need an extra bay for the Wrangler VM Motori swap!

It might be the newer Panther 2.8L with Piezo injectors and aluminum block...either wy I think it is a step in the right direction toward more DIESEL KNOWLEDGE

I just want a freakin' 6-speed JK CRD Unlimited Rubicon. The worst part is they MAKE THEM...and they SELL THEM....just not to me. Hrrumph!

I wouldn't complain about a CRD Willy's though. 8)

You know, it does make you wonder how all this would work. :? Now that GM has bought 50% of VM Motori and they have jointly developed the 2.9L,V-6 diesel for the overseas Cadillac, I wonder what this Mopar kit will be like? VM Motori is building a new plant in Italy with GM’s commitment for more diesel applications for Europe. So maybe Chrysler’s continued use of the Jeep Cherokee VM 2.8L isn’t the end for Chryslers involvement and relationship with VM Motori? :D Any insight?
