| Post subject: | CEL---any ideas? |
My CEL came on about 1000 miles ago, somewhere around 34,000. I have to take Little Mack in for a recall I've been putting off for months and I also have to get my transmission/odometer calibrated for the bigger tires. I stopped by Advance Auto Parts and plugged their generic computer in but it didn't read any codes. Before I get bent over at the stealership, anybody have any ideas on what I should expect? Also, where the heck can I find a cool diesel theme tire cover? |

If you can do the ignition key trick the instrument cluster will display the error codes. To do the key trick do an on-off-on-off-on-off cycle and it will beep and display a code one at a time where your ODO sits. If on-off cycle doesn't work, try off-ACC-off-ACC-off-ACC. You have to shift fast between the positions, so you will feel like you raped your ignition switch. Note that it might take more than 3 on-off or off-ACC cycles to display codes. Maybe even up to 5 cycles...don't worry, you will know for sure when you did it right. Some with newer than an 05 have had problems with this little trick, and some haven't. Personally I think all KJs can do it, but some owners are not switching fast enough between on and off. There is a video showing how to do it on the forums here, try a search for it and you might get lucky. |

It seems that feature is disabled on the '06's though. |

Just spoke with the stealership and the CEL was the airflow sensor and EGR valve---covered under warranty! Little Mack went into limp mode last week (third time in 35,000 miles) so I mentioned that as well and they said they ran a software update on the tranny. I wonder if the oiled air filter crapped out my airflow sensor. The CEL came on within a few days of my last oiling. I put a paper filter in and I might just leave it that way. I never saw any increased performance or economy with the Proguard air filter. They never made any outrageous claims so I guess I am not disappointed. I guess I will go back through the LOST forums and read up on the EGR workaround. Sigh... |
