Hi all,

This may be a bit of a dumb question. Last Monday, I dropped my 26' Rockwood travel trailer off to have a small roof patch done, and I picked it back up on Friday. Now this was the first time I've towed the trailer since last fall, and even then I only went on two trips with it. The trailer is a hair over 5000lbs so it's not an easy tow. However, either I forgot what the CRD feels like when it's towing the trailer, or it seemed to be working a little harder than I remember.

How can I make sure my Inmotion tune hasn't been overwritten by a dealer flash? We've had a few dealer visits since last fall, including one for a CCV replacement, and a biggie for a turbocharger replacement (apparently bcause of the nonfunctional CCV). Is there something I can check with my Scangauge to confirm the tune is still in place?

Thanks all!

- Chris

If SGII can read EGR duty cycle in %, oem flash will have up to 100%, where Inmotion would never reach 50%, as one of the things they do is reduce EGR injection - can also call them, see if they have a bar for B4\after comparison - would be real handy to know that - as there are no options for the CRD, the flash checksum should be the same for all KJ's until Inmotion creates a new version

Unfortunately the SGII doesn't read EGR duty cycle, but that brings up an interesting point... Supposedly, the Inmotion tune reduces the EGR duty cycle. After getting the Scangauge II and getting it working for the first time, I did some experiments to see how much the ORM affects the intake temperature. I saw about a 60F swing going from no ORM to ORM. This was after the CCV and turbocharger dealer visits. That seems like an awfully big temperature delta for "reduced" EGR function.

Not even in X-guage mode?

I confess I haven't looked into all that stuff yet. The CRD has been sitting unused in our driveway due to diesel prices. Maybe this is a good opportunity to poke around with this X-gauge thing.

Same here itake temperature went down at least 60 F on my car.

how much does the inmotion kill the egr compared to orm ?

They claim about 60%, but none of us have been able to verify it.

I don't have an Inmotion tune - but can't you tell by driving it? - I mean to me the pre/post F37 was huge - easily confirmed by driving up my normal hills that I go over to/from work.

The difference on Inmotion should be a lot more.

If you can, get ahold of a scantool (ie, Eqqus or similar), or find a mechanic that has one, that can read what software version is loaded into the ECM and TCM. Ranger1's Eqqus scantool can do this.

If it reads you have ECM version CE or earlier and/or TCM version AF or earlier, you haven't been F37'd or reflashed by the dealer. If it reads ECM version CF or later and/or TCM version AI or later, you've been reflashed.

Unfortunately, in either case, the scantool still can't see the Inmotion tune - apparently as advertised, it's invisible to prying eyes.

But if I remember correctly, Inmotion will supposedly restore the tune for free if it's been flashed over by the dealer. If in doubt, and the beast is parked anyway because of diesel prices, send it in to Inmotion and let them check it out.

Hi ATXKJ,

The difference going from the stock tune to the Inmotion tune was indeed very significant - the CRD felt very strong and chugged up local steep hills without breaking a sweat. Towing felt pretty good too (from what I can recall of the two trips we've been on).

However, we've had some issues with our CRD since the tune was applied. First, the CCV was replaced due to excessive oil and funny noises from the engine. After that, the power kept going down and the noises got worse, and that was eventually diagnosed as a defective turbocharger (likely due to the CCV failure) and that's been replaced. We dealt with reduced power and funny noises for about a month and a half before that repair was made. Since those repairs, we've also replaced the stock exhaust with a Magnaflow cat-back system.

My wife mostly drove the CRD during the winter, so I haven't driven it much since last fall. When I drove it last week with and without the trailer, it didn't seem as strong as I remembered. Is it my imagination? Was the tune overwritten during one of its many dealer visits? It's hard to say. It certainly doesn't seem to charge up the hills in lockup like I thought it used to.

I think Inmotion adjusts boost, right. What I'll do is take some boost readings going up a local steep hill at a given speed, then send the ECU to Inmotion. I'll then check the boost readings when I get the ECU back. The ECU will be reflashed regardless and I don't need to take the measurements, but I will for my own personal curiosity.

retmil46, I know for sure that it's been long since F37-neutered. Unfortunately, as you've pointed out, a scanner won't help detect the Inmotion tune (which I suppose is a good thing).

Thanks all for the suggestions,

- Chris
