Hi ATXKJ,
The difference going from the stock tune to the Inmotion tune was indeed very significant - the CRD felt very strong and chugged up local steep hills without breaking a sweat. Towing felt pretty good too (from what I can recall of the two trips we've been on).
However, we've had some issues with our CRD since the tune was applied. First, the CCV was replaced due to excessive oil and funny noises from the engine. After that, the power kept going down and the noises got worse, and that was eventually diagnosed as a defective turbocharger (likely due to the CCV failure) and that's been replaced. We dealt with reduced power and funny noises for about a month and a half before that repair was made. Since those repairs, we've also replaced the stock exhaust with a Magnaflow cat-back system.
My wife mostly drove the CRD during the winter, so I haven't driven it much since last fall. When I drove it last week with and without the trailer, it didn't seem as strong as I remembered. Is it my imagination? Was the tune overwritten during one of its many dealer visits? It's hard to say. It certainly doesn't seem to charge up the hills in lockup like I thought it used to.
I think Inmotion adjusts boost, right. What I'll do is take some boost readings going up a local steep hill at a given speed, then send the ECU to Inmotion. I'll then check the boost readings when I get the ECU back. The ECU will be reflashed regardless and I don't need to take the measurements, but I will for my own personal curiosity.
retmil46, I know for sure that it's been long since F37-neutered. Unfortunately, as you've pointed out, a scanner won't help detect the Inmotion tune (which I suppose is a good thing).
Thanks all for the suggestions,
- Chris
