Has anyone modified the air intake on their CRD? I have heard of using the gas version setup, but has anyone tried a cone type filter with aluminum piping or something similar? Just curious what kind of gains could be had. |

No one has done any good before and after dyno testing, if that's what you mean. I'm unwilling to go to the inferior filtering of non-paper elements and sand blast my turbo compressor blades. |

The argument for the 2002 Liberty 3.7L V6 air box has merit. Many have proven it by installing a Air Filter Restriction Gage and found that with the V-6 air box mod, air restriction is not an issue with our CRDs. Putting on a Cone shaped air filter will give the noise a big boost, but not the performance. Engines with restricted air flow may benefit from the Cone shaped filter, but our CRDs don't need it. I put a larger paper filter on mine ( http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/airintake.htm ), then tried the V6 air intake ( http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/v6airbox.htm ), then went back to the larger paper filter to see if I noticed any differences. The V6 intake was an improvement over the factory intake and probably the best choice if you want the intake to look stock. I get better throttle response with the larger paper filter. |

I have got this waiting to go on: http://www.dpgoffroad.com/airflowsnorkels.htm Much cleaner air, and probably cooler as well. |

This is what is on the diesel wrangler I found. http://www.ajeepthing.com/images/wrangl ... intake.jpg The Egyptian Wrangler had something similar for the desel. Other than a snorkel, what else is there? |

If anyone wants to install a snorkel,i've gone through it. pm me and i might be able to save you some time and money... simple plumbing parts solved my hole to plug"also makes a handy housings for the taps for my moisture sensor alarm" love my snorkel....worth all the hard work of installation"not yer basic install" |

| Post subject: | conical filter |
Someone on the other site who occasionally posts here has put a conical filter inside the factory airbox by extending the hose feeding into the airbox down into the conical filter. So that is another possibility. |

I am currently making an intake out of the greenfilter brand twister housed cone filter, some 3" aluminum tubing, a spectre aluminum MAF housing, and a hard to find silicone elbow which adapts the 3" tubing to the turbo inlet. I am stalled right now because I need to make a mounting flange for the other sensor in the airbox (pressure sensor I think). I am having a difficult time finding a way to precisely cut a 3" diameter grove out of the flange I fabricated so it will hug the curve of the 3" tube and can be welded. I'll post some pics and part #s if you would like. ~Steve |
