Post subject:  Enabling RDS on Radio

I have traded up to a 2007 2.8CRD Cherokee Auto. The RDS feature on the radio seems to be disabled. By that I mean if I push AF it displays No AF, if I push PTY it says No PTY.

According to my local stealership there is a sequence needed in pushing certain buttons to enable the RDS feature. Does anyone know how to do this?

The head unit definetly is a RDS system, has the RDS EON logo and the AF, PTY and TA buttons.

Thanks

Post subject:  Radio Data system, I believe

This might get more input on the electronics forum... It has little to do with the CRD :)

Yup, we make use of RDS to display the station name, it also allows for switching to a stronger signal on a different frequency for the same station in the background (AF function), which is what I am ultimatley looking for.

Is this the information you need?

Quote:
COUNTRY CODE AND CABIN EQ SETTING - REK RADIO ONLY
The REK radio may require the country code and cabin EQ setting to be set if not programmed correctly.
If battery power is lost to radio, the anti-theft code must be entered before radio will operate.
If the region the vehicle will be driven in uses 10 kHz spacing on the AM band (i.e. 950, 960 etc.), set the Country
Code to “USA”. If the region uses 9 kHz spacing, has LW and MW Bands, and uses RDS (i.e. AF, PTY, TA, etc.),
set the radio for “EUR”. If neither of the previous settings apply, and the vehicle is not being driven in Japan, set the
radio to “ROW”. Vehicles driven in Japan should have the radio set to “JPN”. The following chart list selected country
codes and radio broadcast standards.
To enter the country code and EQ setting, use a scan tool.

This is on page 8A - 54 of the 06 KJ service manual.

Post subject:  Procedure

That is sort of the info. I just needed the sequence (Jeep themselves couldn't do it with their scantool).

The final procedure is as follows:
Ignition Off, radio power button in off position.
Press and hold together: TA, 3 and Time
Display will come on saying Country Code (or similar):
use << and >> buttons to select country. In my case I selected EUR for Europe
Once selected press TA and the word Save should appear.
I was told to push TA, 3 and Set together to save, but TA seemed to do the job.

RDS fully functional.

RDS is great too bad it is not avalible in the US. RDS is MUCH more that radio station info. Anyone that has lived in Europe knows about RDS, it comes with 99% of every radio with a digital display, home, portable, etc.

Serius-XM is not avalible in Europe, I have asked every year at Sinsheim Sight and Sound show. I asked the German Alpine sales rep a few weeks ago. DAB- Digital Audio Broadcasting (Terestrial) is what is avalible here for radio. DVB-T Digital Vidio Broadcasting Terestrial is what I use at home and is avalble in mobile as well. I have a little box and antenne and get 33 digital channels for free, no HDMI output though. Oh and it is all free. Analog is out the door in about 6 months.
