There is so much out there for my F250 it makes your head spin. I just ordered a Sniper Diesel tuner package. Wild stuff, runs on a laptop.
Just about everything FI can be modified. What is the big show stopper here on the CRD? It's a Bosch IP right? I want my power and FE back. 22.5 mpg hwy is total BS. A 7000lb Ford SD 7.3 can get that!

Can't we just copy the ECU flash, modify it and reload it? The dealer does it. What hardware is it? What software? Can someone sneak a copy?

There's software like this http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/ - I think some are using it for VW's.

What's this? It lists the Jeep CRD... http://cgi.ebay.at/DigiFlasher-Pro-Interface-Chip-Tuning-BMW-MERCEDES-VW_W0QQitemZ350036242149QQihZ022QQcategoryZ148866QQcmdZViewItem[/url]

Wow - talk about yer typo's - I couldn't unnerstand nuttin' on that last site - that guy seriously needs to learn to use his word-processor\spell checker, eh.........

Also, TUNERPRO is OBD1, donno nuttin' 'bout no OBD2, thinks CAN is what Coors comes in, etc, etc.

But, that Deutsch site brings up a point - I see some '07 DCJ single board PCM's are now Siemens, where they were the Mitsu\DCJ variants - the KJ CRD gets a Bosch ECM, the other Jeeps used the Mitsu\DCJ PCM - the '07.5 Dodge 68RFE TCM appears to be the '05-'06 PCM from the other car lines - things, they are a-changin'.

On this website:http://www.inmotionusa.com/jeepgraphs.html
They claim to be able to disable the EGR and give more power.
The SEGR kit disables the EGR and does not give error codes and is well established on this forum as popular and functional.
The cost of the SEGR close to $300.00 plus installation time and the cost of another popular choice here is the Edge performance device at around $400.00.
Does anyone have evidence or a strong opinion about the choices mentioned above?

For me, priority wise, a new T/C with shift kit, fuel lift, air box and CCV mod are more important than a performance module but that Exhaust Gas Recirculator (EGR) is worrysome though this rascal Liberty is still under warranty.
This Libbys future is towing and commuting in a state where the roads are turning third world fast so maybe a suspension upgrade is coming too.

the SEGR costs $97.50, solder it up in your spare time, and also install
it in your spare time. it does give more oomph too.

Makes sense about the SEGR.

Still trying to figure out how those folks can turn off the EGR all the way from Spokane or if they really can talk to the chip...

I see those kids with Lappertop ComPuters plugged into the car and they come out smoking! Why can't I do that?

Between the laptop and the car is a "interface" that allows then change the program on the ECM  First you send them a copy of your current program using e-mail. Then they wave their magic wand over it and email it back to you  Then you use your laptop, and interface to load the new program :D

Where do we purchase these interfaces?
Is this similar to a performance module or would this be in addition to the zip filed program?
And a SEGR is still a good idea?

SEGR is always a good idea, as nothing but the bypass plug (and gremlins) can turn the EGR back on - gremlins are the only disadvantage = once the smoke gets out, it's all bad - same for every other module under the hood, tho - Inmotion reflash is good, but one trip to the dealer, and you're back at parallelogram one - SEGR and Inmotion - SEGR and EDGE - SEGR and whatever, etc - ya always got clean air, which is always good for improved power

IMO, of course....................

Never street tune your vehicle unless you absolutely know what it is that you are doing. I know of too many people thinking thye know something and cooking theirs or someone elses engine.

Actually, in my case more like the light has crept into the darkness.
Just reread some of the original build threads, came up with the same conclusion and P'pl'd Loco.
It would be nice to be able to turn the EGR on or off while changing the program to adjust for the latest batch of fuel/cetane but simple is best.

Are these rascalls hard to put together?

i have done one, and i have two more to do for friends and family.

and i have never soldered before doing mine, the key is practice. go to radio shack and
get a 15W soldering iron, read the directions, get a perf board and a 20 pin chip, probably
about $20 in supplies total to practice. if you have any electronic anything you can see
what a solder is supposed to look like. try and replicate it. if it does not look right you get to
practice fixing it without any worry of messing up the real thing. the 20 test solders were
enough to give me the confidence to do it my self.

if you go look at the SEGR builder thread and reas through it and see the pics of the board
and all the components and all the questions it is overwhelming ( i have been there). but once
you get into it it is not bad and everything makes sense. it is like the thought of replacing your
first engine or transmission, seems hard but when you get down to it is not that bad.

Hi Trevor, good to see you again.
Just for the old timers here, like me.
If you have shakes and arthritis is hands, like me, it is hard to do, that is why
I would and did have UFO solder mine.
Hits a bitc*h to get old my friends.

Steve,

I am on here everyday reading everything, might not post a lot but
i am always here. and you are right i am 25 with decent eyes so long
as i have my contacts in (without them i would run into walls) so i guess
the ease of the build depends on the lack of the shakes too.

I have done engines, transmissions and have the shakes.
One reason among many to like this Liberty CRD is the challenge to learn about something complex, flawed with potential.
The crew here is first class, well...., very interesting too.
So, we have a new 'Lektronic deVice in the mail to work on.

But the thread is all about ECM and flashing.
Still would like to find out more about an interface, zip files to prevent viruses and performance programming.
The OBDll is probably where the wire plug in...

Yep, the OBDii is the gov mandated diagnostic plug located above your right knee
A ZIP file is one compressed with a program from PKware that has a data verification. So if it gets garbled going over the www you'll know it

My eyes and nerves are not as good as they used to be eather :D
