Since the Frankenlift is not recommended, I was thinking about putting the 2.5 inch Daystar lift in the front with Ranchos, and then putting the Skyjacker springs in the back with Ranchos. Any thoughts on this combo? |

That is the setup I have and I haven't had any problems with it. The only problem, supposedly, is after about a year, because the front springs have been compressed for so long, they start to lose their strength and they will begin to sag. I haven't encountered it yet but am paranoid about it. Ultimately, a true spring lift all around would be the best option, especially if you wheel. I run the Daystar rear instead of the Skyjacker. I found the Skyjackers too spongey but there are tons of people running them with success. The Frankenlift is probably the best lift out there under 3" but it just did not work with the CRD as it was too spongey up front. I would go back to the Frankenlift once someone develops a front coil with a higher spring rate for the CRD. Unless a nice SFA kit comes out soon... Hope this helps. Dave |

Hope this helps. Dave Dave, I'm confused...what is it about the Daystar lif that compresses the front springs any more than stock? There's no more weight on them than stock...what am I missing? |

The rumor mill has it that the diesel engine is significantly heavier and that Gas KJ lifts will sag over time due to the increased front end load. However, in another thread around here someone noted that a CRD is only 200lbs heavier than a similarly equipped Gasser. So if an extra 200lbs makes your springs compress, you need to buy better springs. But all that to say no one really knows since the CRDs haven't been around long enough for long-term tests of this kind of stuff. |

http://trucks.about.com/library/bl/bl_05jeepliberty.htm 3.7 4wd with auto = Curb Weight, est.(a) (lbs.): 4115 2.8 4wd with auto = Curb Weight, est.(a) (lbs.): 4296 With a grand total difference of 181 est. I would be more worried about the right rear corner of my CRD. If they behave like TJ's do thats the first one to start to sag due to the engine torque. And we all know who rules the torque world . |

Daystar front and SJ rear would be the ideal setup until front springs become available. When they do just swap out the front end and keep the SJ rear. |

I just received my setup today from Quinn. (well, yesterday, but I was out of town until today) It will probably be a week or two before I get it on. I ordered the Daystar kit for the front, OME 948 springs in the back, and Ranchos all around. And the enhanced bumpstop. |

When I saw the Daystar strut tops mounts did not come with bolts, I decided to buy new bolts rather than press out the old ones. Turns out the OEM top plate comes with the screws pressed in. You can't order just the screws. |

Done - Lifted it today. Daystar on the front and OME in the back. Had some difficulty getting the clevis fork back in place, but a call to Quinn and instructions on the proper use of a crow bar took care of that. I'll get pix tomorrow. |

I decided to make a tire change in the process. I had these http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireProductCategoryDetailBrnd.do?rcz=77375&rc=TNWINT&tpc=KAZRA3&tp=Truck%2FSUV in a 245/70. I went with these tonight http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireProductCategoryDetailBrnd.do?rcz=77375&rc=TNWINT&tpc=CPBRL1&tp=Truck%2FSUV in a 255/70. This gets me about another .5" in both width and heigth. I had to do a little cutting on the outer most black plastic right in front of the tire. (10 minutes with a Dremel) This also gets me a little more aggressive tread but it should still behave well on the hwy. I've put 18K miles on mine in 9 months. I have these same tires on my oldest son's Ranger PU. They're made by Cooper, and I've been pleased with them. Gotta go out of town for a few days, I'll try and get photos before I leave. I had a 2003 black Libby that I loved. I've finally gotten the CRD up to where I had to 2003. (almost) ![]() |

Is that the only place your tires rubbed? Did they not rub on the pinch weld behind the tire at the bottom of the wheel well? I'm about to put 255/70s on my KJ and when the first two tires were delivered yesterday I thought "wow those are big tires, they'll never fit on my jeep". I hope I'm wrong. |

I got General Grabber AT2 in 255/70-16 size. Boy are they big (relative to stock KJ tires)! And boy are they meaty! www.cardomain.com/ride/2164878 The guys with 2.5" of lift are rubbing with them...so we'll see how it goes with my measly 1.5" lift up front whenever my wife lets me order the other two. ![]() |
