i believe this has been going on since i go the car cause my CRD has a weird vibration when sitting at a light in gear stopped and the other 2 i have driven do not have this vibration except the Ex's right before they rebuilt the trans..... when coasting to a stop there is a noticable thunk/clunk when the speedo gets to about 3 mph.. has any one else noticed this on their trucks? i am real tempted to just but the suncoast and install it cause i think my TC is crapping out. |

I get a bit of a clunk sound as well. I believe it not to be the transmission but more likely the suspension in the front. Did someone say swaybar? ![]() |

![]() even if you are on flat pavement coming to a stop? |

I've had this same problem intermittently for about 6 months now. Dealer had the whole front end and t-case out of the vehicle when it was under warranty, and it didn't change at all. It seems to be something grounding out on the body/frame intermittently (at stops). Had it make a real loud metal "crack" sound once as I was sitting at a stop light, and the vibration went away. I'm beginning to wonder if it something in the exhaust system. It's driving me crazy. Started after I went 4 wheeling on some pretty rough trails, but I don't know if that really had anything to do with it. Let me know what you find, please ![]() |

I would more suspect something drivetrain against the body - the trans dipstick tube, the shifter cable assembly, exhaust, etc - if it was me (and I'm glad it's not!) I'd be up underneath checking things out, park brakes locked, wheels chocked, engine running, trans in P\N for reference, then in R or D - have someone shift it into gear while you're underneath, may help pinpoint it easier |

it feels like it is at my feet or in the trans tunnel, not at the back or anything... when i get access to a lift i will check things out. i am just real leery with the $hitty TC and all. |

the thunk or thud noise when coming to a stop sounds similar to the issue we had on the old mans CRD, it had a loose motor mount. though, nothing in a vibration symptom like you described. |

And I don't get cluncks ALL the time, but only under some conditions... |

Mine used to have a clunking sound when I came to a stop and when I would move out from a stop I took it to a jeep dealer in St Joe mo and they tightened the engine mount on the passenger side about 5 turns. This was done January of 07 and I have not heard any noise or clunk since I would know if there were any noises cause I drive the crd about 100 miles every day in my daily job as a salesman. Also no problems since doing the orm I usually get around 29 to 30 on the highway. Very happy so far |

Post subject: | Front end clunk fixed! |
Replaced the Right Engine Mount today and it seems to have taken care of my "front end" noise. This has been very intermittent for about 35,000 miles but got very regular the last 5000 miles or so. It sounded like a suspension problem, it would "crack" when you turned or went over a speed bump intermittently. It would also rattle when turning the engine off. A couple of times, you could feel the engine grounding out on the floor board when idling at a stop light, then it would "crack" and the vibration would go away Took about a month of intensive study on and off a vehicle hoist, but we finally came to the conclusion that it couldn't be anything else! Funny thing is that the mount is only about $45 (list, for a fluid filled mount?), and it was probably the easiest thing to replace on the Jeep next to the oil filter (on a lift though). Hope this helps anyone else that it being driven crazy by this very intermittent problem. |
