In the last week, two different dealerships (where I bought it and where I get it serviced) have called, asked for me specifically,
then inquired if I still had the CRD and would I be willing to sell it to them. The second caller even added "if we offer you enough money."
I had company, so I didn't play the "how much is enough?" bit. I inquired briefly and found out that there is apparently a big enough
demand for them that the dealers are making these kinds of calls to every CRD owner on record. The conversation ended with my noting
that there wasn't another car on the market with a diesel and the capabilities of the CRD and I planned to drive it several hundred thousand miles.

Interesting that the dealers are aware of the demand/popularity. Too bad Chrysler didn't have more foresight....

No one has called me yet... but If they offer enough I may be tempted into putting the cash towards a Jeep diesel conversion. I don't think they will offer enough.

Ths is a game that dealers play to sell you a new car  It's usally a check in the mail for a large amount only good on a trade. But since times are rough I suppose they now have the time to make phone calls

I got a very similar call about two months back about my 03 TDI. Dealer said they had several customers looking for that same model/year and wanted to buy mine to avoid having to purchase at auction. I gave them the same reply you did.

I posted the story on tdiclub and got skewered with replies saying that it was nothing more than a come-on to get me into the dealership and trade for a new car.

I've also received the "we'll give you a great deal on a trade up" calls. These were different.
No new car purchase mentioned. They were offering to buy the CRD cash on the line. I kind of
wish I'd taken the time to ask more questions.

Considering that I'm going to be laid off in 2 months from Freightliner, if I didn't already have two years pay in the bank and a military pension still coming in, I'd be tempted if they offered enough money and there wasn't any "trade up" involved.

Say 20 grand cash in hand, drive the MB for a couple years and see if Honda makes good on their diesel setup which is sans urea.

A local dealer has been calling my friend to aquire her 93 Ford Festiva in the same manner. That thing is rediculous, gets really good gas mileage. We call it the Rollerskate.

:D :D The Local dealer here in Florissant Mo. called me and sent me a letter that if I traded they would give me $ 1,000 over KBB price.
How ever their KBB is always 20 to 40 %lower. I just said no.

I used to have a .... '91 Festiva .. that car was awesome ... the only time I tracked mileage was on a trip around the state ... 53MPG .... and I think I really only changed the oil a few times ...

That's because the Festiva was a Hyundai with a ford badge...

That should be VW = Audi :) (Assuming = implies "is the parent company of")

Please, if any dealerships contact anyone in the future proposing such offers I would like to ask that you refer them to me. I have a CRD that I want to get out of, at this point I'd settle to sell or trade for what I owe on my loan. Times are getting tough for many in America, I simply cannot afford the payments and fuel expenses for this vehicle anymore.

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Feel free to PM me with any info or simply refer my email. I'd be fine with traveling certain distances to make a deal. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Some have asked me where they can find one also.
So just what part of the country are you located and what kind of money are we talking?
I can't pass any info on unless I know...

Me too, for the exact same reasons. On top of that, my job situation has changed and I no longer need my Jeep. I'll even consider taking some sort of loss on mine. I live in Delaware and can help if someone needs to be picked up at the airport, train station, etc. or if they need it shipped.

I live in central Illinois and owe $17k on the loan. I'm open to considering anything at this point, I'd be fine with taking some time off and going on a trip to get a good deal.

This is the crap I got from my dealer.

I get a call from my sales guy with "We are interested in buying your CRD back", knowing darn well we would have to buy something else. Well he sparked my interest and I found a AWD Hemi Magnum, tow package, $33,000 sticker price.

We start talking turkey and they come up with the numbers showing $10,000 on trade. I say whats this? I wasn't looking to trade you offered to BUY IT from me. You want it you can give me retail for it. Off he goes and when he comes back says the best they will do is $12,300.
I told him I'm not interested in giving it to you, so I guess we are done, and that was that.
