I just swapped out the factory diff cover for the ruff stuff diff cover and was wondering about fill level. The new cover is still not full at 4 quarts, should I fill it till it runs out like I do on my Benzes. The new cover seems a bit bigger but it seems like it may take 1/2 quart more of so. What do you guys think. Thanks Chris |

You've got problems,I have the same diff cover and mine comes running out at about 2 3/4 qts.And yes the 8.25 in the CRD is the same as the one in the gas KJ. Make sure your on perfectly level ground with the KJ sitting on it's wheels, not sitting on jackstands. |

the car is on level ground and the drain hole is on the bottom, the thing finally ran over at 4.5 qt. the specs say 3 quarts so 4.5 does not sound too far off. |

Your diff might be turned the wrong way, the plug should be on the side instead on the bottom from the other pictures I've seen. |

the fill hole is on the side and the drain hole is on the bottom. if the car is level where would all the extra fluid go if there is only suppose to be 2.75 qts in there |

I just got done looking at the bolt pattern, and there is no way you could have it sideways, so ignore my ingorance. Hhhhhmmmm, the picture that I have of the Rough Stuff does not show a drain hole, so this might be something new that they have built? Ask 2006 KJ, he has the rough stuff.

The fliud capicity for the 8.25 with the stock cover is 4.4 pints,or 2.4qts,not 3qts.You overfilled the the rear diff with 4.5qts and it will push it out the breather from over pressurization, and possibly airate the fliud to much and can possibly cause damage to the rear end.The diffs are kinda like a auto tranny,it's better to run a little low then run with to much fliud.
Oh and from other failures of quaility control from Ruff Stuff I wouldn't put it past them to put the drain plug on the wrong side of the cover. |

i went out and checked and it looks like the drain hole is drilled on the wrong side, I think he drilled the hole in what is suppose to be the top. So instead of taking the thing off couldnt I just drain it out and fill it to the right amount? I looked at and it looks as though the thing is the same all around and it is just the hole is located wrong in my case. |
