Our '06 started and drove 35 feet and then died. The starter turns over, but won't start. CEL is on.
This is the first time for us. Drain fuel filter? Not sure if our warranty includes towing to the dealer.

Thanks,

Wobbly

Did you try starting / off cycle 3 or 4 times ?

Another owner had this problem using a key that was not coded properly. Try another key?

Try pulling the codes from the car using the key trick (on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off very fast - it will show you when you do it correctly by displaying the codes on the ODO).

Otherwise Bill suggests the key might be incorrect.

Thanks for the suggestions. A new fuel filter solved the problem. Didn't see any water in the old one, however.

After reading the thread about air in the fuel filter, that's probably what the problem was.

....is crimped onto the lower part and could be the cause of the air leak. All the crimp needs to do is come a little bit loose and it can suck air. Since nitrogen, oxygen, CO2 molecules the major components of air are much smaller than fuel, they can leak in through a very small gap that fuel can not leak out of even at 1000 PSI.

Installing a lift pump will place the filter under positive pressure and eliminate this problem in the future.

My BMW 324TD had a fuel filter head with primer pump similar to the CRD's. It was plagued with air leaks. BMW's revised filter head had no primer pump. I added a NAPA inline pump and solved the problem. Another solution was to use a diesel Rabbit filter head from a boneyard.
