While removing OEM audio add-ons (Subwoofer, Sirius module, U-Connect) from my '05 Limited and installing into my buddy's '06 CRD, I accidentally drilled into a wire loom I didn't see and twisted/tore a couple of wires. I thought I'd patched the wires that had been exposed; however, when I got it all back together I had a J1850 error code show on the overhead console. And a bunch of electronic thing not functioning: the overhead console, the fuel guage, the left rear turn signal, back-up lamps, steering wheel controls (audio and cruise), and the transmission overdrive switch. This wire loom is situated behind the panel in front of the driver's knees, immediately to the left of the diagnostic connector. I took it to a stealership to day to get it scanned, hoping they would just be able to reset the codes, but no such luck. I need to follow all of the wires in that loom to see if I pulled them out of connectors or something. Can anyone e-mail me Service Manual-quality diagrams that show the wires and their color codes? Email is rdhayward@hotmail.com. Thanks! |

Thanks a bunch! It's a 140 MB download, so I'll be letting it run when I go to bed. |

bummer. The problem is that unless you remove the harness, there's no telling how many wires have been affected. Once you remove the harness, you can at least patch the wires correctly (e.g not electrical tape).Worst case scenario, an exposed power source could come in contact with a ground or ECU wire. Then you're frying major components. If it were me, I would remove the dash harness and properly splice and insulate (heat shrink) following the factory repair method to ensure that you wont be chasing your tail or experiencing ongoing electrical issues. -Todd |
