This morning I had to do the driveway shuffle. I started the KJ, backed up, pulled to the side and forward, put her back in park. I tried to take the keys out of the ignition, and they won't make the final click back to allow me to pull the key out! keerrrikey!
What to do now?
Here's what I have found so far,
when the ignition is on and the truck is running, I can move the gear selector from park to first without using the "pushbutton" when the ignition is off, and the gear selector is in park, I am unable to move the said gear selector. the truck starts and drives fine, but I can't take the dang keys out!
I'll probably have to take this to the dealer huh...

There is some type of mechanical interlock (button .vs. key position) that seems to be dysfunctional.

Unless you get lucky and can spot the problem (you might look around and see if you get lucky), it does sound like a dealer thing.

Under warranty?

There is an interlock that is not triggering.

shift it back and forth, jiggle it around, message it, give it some vibrations, see if you can get it to work again that way.

otherwise, dealer issue if its under warrantee

It happened to me...

Try the little tap with hammer on key and it if it does'nt work.

There is a cable that attaches to your shifter (that cable unlocks the keydrum when in Park position) under the central console that cable or clip could be broken. thats what happened to me, I went to dealer and they had to order a new console to replace the broken one. All this under warranty too..

Good luck.
