Everyone who wanted parts bought them and got them shipped at the same time. All the other parts went to loving caring owners.

It's grown on me, I wasn't 100% sold on it when I bought it, and then when I looked at it in the photos I always started doubting the decision(though only a little, still maybe 99% certain I liked it).

But last night when I got it on I was sold.....it looks 10x better in person to see it on the jeep.

Well I got to thinking today that maybe I should get back to work. So I started thinking about what I needed to do next which is to get the springs back under it so I can move on with fabbing up the tranny mount.

Well I got to thinking and decided that the D30 is just too weak of an axle to put under the front end with 30.5" tires, so I decided to put a JK Dana 44 front under it. Quick search of craigslist and I went and picked up the cheapest one I could find at $300.

Its missing the passenger side knuckle and the brakes, I will either replace everything thats missing and go back to JK specs, replace just the pass high steer knuckle and try to use D30 unit bearings, or put on WJ high steer knuckles and brakes(cheapest option thus far and keeps the 5x4.5 pattern)

And now I will probably get a 8.8 with 4.10s and LSD for the rear, which is my ideal setup, selectable locker in the front, LSD in the rear. I'll top it off with a TJ locker switch and have everything nice and factory like I like.

Ok so I started getting into this today.

The XJ/MJ/TJ/WJ/ZJ knuckles WILL NOT bolt onto the JK inner C's. I hadn't heard anything probative on that, and now I know for sure. In addition to the knuckle being a little too "small" the taper on the bottom balljoint appears to be different.
Image

Now for the hub, as I suspected the hub will interchange between the two, so at the very lease the XJ hub will bolt into the JK knuckle for whatever good that will do me.
Image
Note the hub isn't fully installed or clocked correctly, I just wanted to show that it will in fact install into the XJ D30 knuckle.
Image
Image

And now the shaft, thicker and with more splines, so the JK shafts wont mate to the XJ D30 hubs.
Image
Image

So right now my two options are:
Find a U joint to mate between the XJ stub and the JK shaft(weaker).

Redrill the JK hub in some manner to make it 5x4.5.

Lug adapters really aren't an option for me unless I can find some that are only about .75 inches thick. The JK 44 is about 5 inches wider than a XJ D30, and by the time you throw on lug adapters(spidertrax for example would add about 3" to the overall width) thats alot of extra tire sticking out.

So time to consider some more options......................anyone know if any other hubs might bolt in that have the correct spline count? This unit bearing hub seems to be fairly common, see it on fords and such, I just wonder if any of them have the correct spline count and bolt pattern.

Ok so I cleaned up the garage this evening and got back into it. So since I didn't feel like doing any real work I decided to lay out the wiring and get a handle on what I was going to need to modify.

For the most part it looks like it lays out nicely in the engine bay. There are a few sensors I will able to ditch(all the evap stuff), the ECU EFI control subharness is already removed and on the floor(very little needed to run the 4L when you strip it down), plus some misc things like cruise control etc will make the engine bay a little cleaner. Course that also means more time to strip it down remove doo doo, and rewrap it.

Also gonna be relocating the battery to the drivers side, and then running some heavy gauge wire over to the PDC.

This is the 96- steering column hole:
Image

This the 97+ steering column hole, it needs to to cutout and moved obviously. Not exactly sure how I will go about that.
Image

Here you can see that the newer C101 plug hole, what I will probably do it cutout the donor shape and then use the bolt holes in the older plug to hold the plate in place.
Image
Image

This is the older style steering column bracket, it will need to but cutout and the new one(below) welded in.
Image
Image

Here you can see the older style heater core hole is a little different, but it'll work.
Image
Image

Here you can see the upper dash bolt points are different, not sure what to do about those.
Image
Image

This is the older side mount bracket studs/bolt holes, the newer style is below, as you can see there are a fair amount of differences.
Image
Image

This is the older style door post latch, this is a little tricky but can be dealt with fairly easily.
Image
Image

And this is where I think I will mount the filter head:
Image

I'm not sure why but I have a filter head with different banjo fittings on it, which won't work in my configuration, so the bent stockers are perfect.

Steering column/dash bracket cutoff:

Lets do this:
Image

Passenger side bracket welded on(the thin stuff at the top was a witch)
Image

I got the drivers side partially welded on then tossed the dash in place to make sure I had measured the right place to weld the brackets on. Looks good to me, dash sits in place like it should.

I can't wait to see this one finished, I always wanted to update an MJ with the newer XJ front end but never thought about the BJC conversion, kudos on being original
