Post subject:  Air/Fuel, Boost and EGT Installation Questions

Hi everyone,

I'm going to start ordering parts for my gauges this week and I was curious if anyone could comment on where one can pull a signal for the air/fuel gauge?

I'm also looking for some advice on the boost gauge along with the EGT. The EGT should be post turbo right? What about the boost gauge?

Thank you!

There's no reason to put an air/fuel gauge in a diesel unless you jus want something to look at, like a boost gauge.

The intake manifold is easily reached by removing the boost hose from the intercooler to the manifold. Put some cloth or paper towel into the intake and drill/tap into it. The small metal fragments will be caught in the cloth/paper towel and not damage the valves.

EGT can be post or pre turbo, you decide if you want the risk or to add 75F if you don't want the risk. warp2diesel has done some comparisons so shoot him a PM so you get the good reading without the risk :)

Yep - since a Diesel is 100% air and just enuff fuel to sustain combustion, yer air\fuel guage woud just keep tryin' to turn itself upside down in futile attempts to indicate the fuel component - anyways, it's just a O2 sensor reader, and the soot in Diesel exhaust would soon bury it, asphyxiating it in the process - save yer money fer a BigMac, supersized..........................

Hey i just installed my egt and boost this past weekend.

I drilled a my exhaust right outside the turbo and welded a fiting for the prove for my egt, took just a few minutes.

Considering i don't mod my jeep a lot, just have the egt to tell me when is hotter than normal. meaning, if its 10f after turbo everyday and then pops to 20 f, i know something is wacky.
The risk of my being clumsy and cracking an exhaust manifold while drilling and taping... really didn`t seem to be worth the risk.
And while i was at it, moded the exhaust.

The boost gauge, i attached it to the CAC output side. Drill a smaller hole than the fiting (brass) and heated it to mold it to the plastic as i screwed it in, then put jbweld around it.
It doesn't look pretty but it should stay.
Again, not a very handy dude, and drilling / taping into an expensive hard to replace part of my truck, is scary.

Good luck !
