My check engine light has been on for a week or so now. Ive had it at the dealership saying it was the EGR and it failed. The part was/is not covered under warranty. Is there any way to find out if the EGR Valve failed open or closed? I already switched out the MAF Sensor with my brother's known good MAF. Therefore, ruling out the MAF sensor throwing the code. We also pulled out the MAP Sensor and cleaned it.

When I come to stops, about 50% of the time when I press the accelerator my CRD hesitates til about 10 or 12 MPH before it accelerates at normal speed. After I jet off, I look in the rear view mirror only to see a puff of black smoke like the big diesel trucks I see going down the road.

Any help or input on the health of my CRD would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is it worth it to have a warranty? Or should I go cancel it and get a portion of my money back?

Only the top of the line Chrysler warranty covers the EGR and most if not every thing else with a $100 deductable per trip. It's available for varing miles and years. I got it fo for 7/70 :D

For giggles try pushing the priming pump a few times till it's firm.

The EGR is probably plugged up and not flowing enough exhaust through it. If it were to get unplugged by doing the SEGR, it probably is already in the closed position and that's where you want it. The SEGR will take care of CEL light and codes.

To me that says your EGR valve is stuck in the open position. You've got extreme turbo lag because not enough of the spent gases are going to turning the turbine, and black smoke because of incomplete combustion. Get it replaced. It should be covered up to 36,000 miles.

Morning gents and ladies.

The OP is my little bro so we have bled the fuel head, cleaned and swapped sensors as he said. All of this came from the forum, and me doing it to my truck.

This is me next Q and his top, and this might want another thread.

He is ditching the warranty, I have his SEGR built on the table. Has anyone blocked off the EGR in conjunction with the SEGR?

As In a block off plate?

This is all, of course, is for off road testing.
