'05 CRD (39K) is slowly losing coolant while the temp gauge now consistently runs 1/16" higher on the gauge than it has previously for 20K. No signs of external loss, so this does not look promising. However, no great worry about cost because of 7/100K ESP, but dealer tech wants us to "wait" for it to get "worse". The tech filled the header tank about 3/4" above the normal "cold" level, which leads to my question..... When the level was at the "full cold" line, it appeared as just a horizontal line. Now, I can see what I never noticed before, namely, that the tank is divided into three "sections". Right now, the one closest to the center is empty (maybe always has been, I'm not sure), the middle one is now an inch above the "line" and the far right one is 1/2" above the "line". So, now it is not clear how to judge what is going on with the coolant level. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, DOC |

EGR coolant return (or send) line clamp, or, easier, radiator cap................... |

Thanks GM, I assume you are suggesting possible common sources of leaks, rather than that these might account for the "uneven" level in the header tank. Thanks Again, DOC |

My hose clamp at the bottom of the radiator got raped by a few years of contraction and expansion, that had to go. Got new coolant in at the dealer and a new hose clamp. I thought it was AC condensate, but it wasn't. I'd check for any fluid below the vehicle after shutdown, as some of it might not just be AC condensate water. |
