| Post subject: | Currently in shop for F37...should I persuade 'em to do more |
Hi, Been awhile since I posted here. I've been busy with other projects, and the Jeep's been running fine until the other day when the fan clutch seized up. So, into the shop it goes at 50k miles. And they noticed that it hadn't had the F37 done yet. So while I'm waiting for the 7-10 days needed for the backordered fan clutch, they're working on the tranny. I know that at one point the pump, along with at least one of the filters, were suspect parts. The most recent TSB I found was 21-016-05, and the date range on my tranny is outside that range. Has anyone successfully persuaded a stealership to go the extra mile and replace parts like these while the tranny is out of the vehicle? It seems stupid not to. Thanks! |

IMO, dont get the F37, get it back from them now before irreversible damage is done. If its too late, then I am sorry they neutered your Jeep. |

If its too late, then I am sorry they neutered your Jeep. They had already derated the engine output with a previous ECM update, as far as I know. So the only thing this should do is provide me with a new converter, correct? |

No, this update will reflash the TCM, permanently. Any previous ECM update would have been separate from this. Yes you will get a new torque converter, but they will also detune the TCM for lower torque output. |

Yup and maybe the pump.....if you are lucky the pump. |

Sorry, I just spent for the Suncoast, new pump and shift kit, then I will have to do a chip or performance program to get back what the F37 will take away from you. $$$$$$$, of course the new OME T/C will be junk anyway but will last longer with the detune. Just make sure they flush out the old plastic and metal bits from the stock T/C. |

Sadly, they're not even going to flush the tranny. Just replacing the converter and whatever piddles out of it. But with a new T/C, it theoretically should only have NEW plastic and metal bits. Geez...I'm not impressed with Jeep. |

Actually, it's not the fault of the people at Jeep - F37 is part of the bad management cost-cutting hangover left over from the decade that Daimler was running the show. IMHO, you can lay this one at the feet of Dr. Z and his corporate brethren/predecessors over in Germany. |

Can you do a driveline swap with the 'mog? Portage axles would look sweet on a KJ |

Well, I was wrong. If they had flashed the ECM or TCM with the torque reduction previously, and I thought they had, whatever they did when doing the F37 TC replacement made it even worse. I didn't think it could get worse, but it clearly has. Passing someone on the road is a real exercise in geometry and dynamic prediction now, and my commute mileage dropped from over 23MPG average to apparently around 19MPG on the same tank of fuel, at least according to the EVIC which was pretty accurate before. Be forewarned: it can get worse. Avoid the F37 if you can. Crapola...they sold me on performance and mileage, and now they took back a fair portion of each. If I were a lawyer... |

I know, but when they tell you that it'll void the remainder of the 100k warranty if I don't do it, what the heck am I supposed to do? They kinda had me by the short and curlys, you know? If you get a dealer who isn't on the ball, you're better off because they won't go looking for notices on that VIN. Sadly, this dealership was on the ball. |

The F37 wasn't a recall, it was a "customer satisfaction" fix. A dealer will tell you anything to sell you on something. You can only use our vinyl protectant. Anything else will void your dash warrantee. I know its all kinda late not, I dont mean to rub salt in your wound. But this is more of a warning for the others out there. |

Right to forewarn others, Sir Sam. But it said recall on it. However, if customer satisfaction is their goal, I should be able to get it undone, right? (He said logically)... |

I'll repeat, it was not a recall. It was a CSN - customer satisfaction notification. It clearly said in the text that Chrysler was recommending you bring your vehicle in for the F37. That's how they get away with neutering it if you complain later - you have no recourse because you brought it in voluntarily. |
