OK - 2800 miles and change, and it looks like I've got transmission issues - I was checking to make sure I didn't have any oil leaks when I changed my oil last Saturday .... sure enough, no oil leaks, but two great big drops of transmission fluid on the bottom bolts that hold the transmission bellhousing to the engine block adapter .... hmmm, maybe a new (improved?) front pump will be in order?

I wonder how long that thing has been leaking - when I bought it with 60+ miles on it, I noticed two brown drops in the same place, but they had the consistency and color of honey ... I wonder if they put sealer there to keep the trans leaks hidden until the warranty expires ... ???

Anyone else have a similar tale ?

I had a trans leak last month. It turned out to be the shift link arm seal was popped out. The mechanics just worked it back in and it hasn't leaked since. However, it took me three visits to the dealer for them to even find it.

I did not have the leak but I did have the TC and Trans Pump implode on me. For the leak your describing I would eliminate a potential culprit giving you a false sense that it is the trans pump seal.
Make sure that you don't have leaks around the dipstick tube that then rolldown the side of the bellhousing and appear at the bottom of the bell housing.

I'll double check, but I don't think that's where it's leaking - looks to be coming from INSIDE the bellhousing, leading me to believe that the pump is going south ..... dealer is going to look at it tomorrow when they perform the TCM recall ... hopefully I'll know something then.

Well if it is the trans pump we now have documented proof that it and the pump seal have been redesigned.
So, you just need to make sure you in fact get the new parts.
On the bright side, at least your TC and tranny as a whole are still good.
I think you may have caught this early enough!

I hope so ....

I have definitely noticed that the torque converter has one helluva high stall speed .... either that or it's weak as all get out, as I can give around 1/2 throttle or so at about 40 mph and the rpms will run about 2800-3000 or so ...

Just remember that when you drop the pan and replace the filters that the FSM is wrong, this tranny takes 8 qrts + to fill to full hot mark on dipstick. If you just fill with the 4.7L of tranny fluid it will surge/jerk at idle, shift hard and buck at TC lock up.

Just went though this again with tec's at dealrship yesterday. They put the required requied 4.7L in then tried to test drive it with me riding and it did the shudder and shake when coming to stop before getting out to the street. I ask the tech what made it do that and he said low fuid, and he wheeled around a drove back to shop and dipped it again and it was just below the first hole for the cold check. He added 2 qts and off we went and just barely could feel the shudder, but it shifted hard or clunky but better. We went down the highway for about 5 miles and came back and dipped the tranny and it was just over the top of the second cold mark and no where near the hot mark. He put in one more quart and I drove it myself (the tech gave me two quarts to take with me) drove it about 5 miles and pulled into my garage and checked it and it was just at the first hot hole and I added another quart, drove around the block and it was between the holes for hot fill and made for my guess is to make the top of the mark for full hot will take at least 1/2 qt to quart more. I will know this evening when the wife get home and I can check it before she shuts it off.

We recently began experiecing significant shudder when stopping and a couple of times it stalled the crd engine completely. I took it into the dealer to hace TSB 18-023-06 and mentioned the shudder and stalling problems. When they were finished they told me the transmission needed another litre of oil. So I'm not sure which of the above actions did the trick but the low speed shudder is gone. I also then pointed out that i have seen no evidence of a leak anywhere and it was them who changed the transmission oil about a month ago when doing the transmission filter TSB. Based on what Old Navy says it was probably the low oil level causing the shuddering.

Also, this past week. my wife had the vehicle go into the limp home mode. She managed to drive the few blocks home at low speed. When she got home I went out and listened to the engine and it sounded like an old washing machine. Turned it off and restarted about 10 minutes later and everything was fine. Had the vehicle in this morning for the rear brake TSB and while there they checked for any codes that might have been generated during this problem. No codes were stored. Since then it has been running fine.
