Sounds like the Freon leaked out
Seems like they engineered something would last just long enough dosen't it

I completed a long cross country trip and noticed that my Air Conditioning performance declined. Initially, I could maintain adequate cooling by using the internal circulation setting, but as the trip went on, event that didn't work. I can feel a little cooling effect when AC is on, but not much. Also, the amount of cooling is not steady. Previously, the cooling output has been excellent. I have a 05 CRD with 38K, so I am just out of general warranty, and as I read the manual, AC is not covered under the 7/70000 drivetrain warranty. Any thoughts on the problem? Oh, and by the way, towing a boat/trailer weighing about 3,000# with full windshield, and carrying a canoe on top of the Jeep rack, I averaged 19MPG over about 2,500 miles typically driving 65 to 70mph. Not bad! |

Yeah, I have the same problem with the A/C. It is a freon leak in my case as well. I had it recharged when I was a few states away and the mechanic that did it said it only had about half of the amount it required. Unfortunately, it leaked out again within 24 hours. Fortunately, he only charged me for an "inspection" which was $15. I'm hoping this is just an o-ring or something. Because it worked well after the recharge, that would seem to indicate that he pump is still working...unless heaven forbid a seal when out on that or something. I looked over the fittings on top of the engine and all of those appear to be hoses with pressure fit connections. Supposedly, they than refill it with freon and put some kinda of "stop-leak" in it, but I'm not sure of how much I'd trust that. Mine is an '06 with 50K miles, so all bets were off for a warranty once it rolled over 36K. I was driving around Saturday and I had rolled down all of the windows. The rear driver side window made some interesting clinky sounds and then wouldn't roll up. I can slide the window up and down with my hands...there's nothing at all holding it secure. Actually, it drops about an inch during my trip to work and you can hear the linkages and stuff rattling around in the door. I suspect mine was assembled on a Monday as the group working on it apparently had a weekend hangover. My passenger side window needs to be reglued in it's holder because it will get cocked and bind in the track when it's being rolled up...driver's side was fixed 20K miles ago. I would have hoped that stuff like this wouldn't be happening for a few years from now. |

I happen to mine under warrenty and turned out to be leaking high pressure line. The mechanic also replaced the dryer and low pressure switch. Had it done last year and still work perfect. Before it woundn't hold a charge for long. |

Not bad! Sounds like a refridgerant leak. Check the pressure in the system, I would then refill with some UV dye and start looking for the leak, hopefully its something easy to find and get to. Once you get leak fixed evac and refill the system. |

If you had the F37 performed, and you were lucky enough to have a defective condensor, it may just be covered. Greg |

Turns out the problem was a faulty expansion valve. Too much pressure on the low side, too little pressure on the high side causing the AC clutch to cycle on and off. Before the diagnosis, I initially called my dealer to see if this would be covered under warranty since I was so close to 3yr/36k miles. Answer was: NO. Took it to a local garage where it was determined that it wasn't a leak, and found the clutch cycling on and off. The tech couldn't find any schematics for the CRD so he called another Jeep dealer for info. That dealer said it may be covered by warrantly. I took it to the other dealer with the stipulation that I would pay $100 for diagnosis and deductible. DC covered the rest. I am satisfied. |
