An oil change @ 24K in January I was kinda disappointed to see the MAP was still gunked up. But after a recent oil change after I went to clean the MAP it was almost completely clean with very minimal buildup.

Prior to the change my oil was still black, I did add some Seafoam (6 oz.) to the crankcase just before this most recent oil change. I'll see if it makes any difference next time around. Then it will be time for another oil analysis.

Black oil is not a bad thing. ALL diesels will blacken up the oil. Only an Oil analysis will tell you if a problem. I have run my CRD with the ORM for some time and the oil still gets black just like my semi. But, the oil analysis' I have done show very low soot levels. So, the ORM is cutting back on the EGR.

In my '06 semi, the oil gets black in 1000 miles. I run it for 25,000 between oil changes and the soot levels are well below being a problem.

Even if you were to run bypass filters and really keep the oil "clean", it would still turn black far sooner than any gasser. Just the nature of a diesel. Kind of a shock to anyone that has only dealt with gassers.

That's the thought behind low-sulphur oils and low-sulphur fuels: reduce the soot, which is a byproduct of combustion using high-sulphur fuels and oils, and which, in the cremated state, which is what your soot-trap does, is a known carcinogen, with results similar to black lung
