I just finished my first freeway ride, approx 250 miles, after SEGR and Provent. In the first leg of the trip the EVIC displayed max readings of 30.3 MPG and in the return 31.5 MPG. Average indicated speed in speedometer was 65 MPH @ 1800-1900 rpm on cruise control most of the trip from SF bay area to Sacramento and back, no major hills. Libby is stock 06 with 30K miles. Tires are 235/70-16 Pep Boys Dakota Destiny inflated to 35 PSI. carying 3 adults + dog. I use Rotten Robbie's B20 mixed with dino diesel to get a 5% bio blend

Prior to this ride i did quite a bit of around town driving and was getting 22.6 MPG in the EVIC display. I am easy on the pedal. I had not monitored MPG prior to mods. Anyone knows how accurate are the MPG EVIC readings?

I think it's pretty accurate, but based on my back of the envelope calculations, it's only about a 50-75 mile trailing average. It doesn't keep track since the last time you reset it, if that was more than about 50 miles ago.

Edit: keep in mind your fuel injectors are serial numbered and programmed into your ECU with their exact flow rates (since they can vary +/- a few % of each other) as they were built and tested at the Bosch factory. Your ECU knows to very small error how much fuel is flowing through them. I think the bigger potential source of error is how close the rolling diameter of your tires is to what's in the ECU. If it's like most KJs, it's within 5%.

yup, injector flow is known.......its distance traveled thats the real variable in accuracy.

In my XJ my speedo is pretty much dead on at highway speeds, hence I have noted that my gas mileage is spot on for highway driving.

If the speedo is correct, there is a much greater chance that your EVIC is close as well.

Mine was horrid though, wrong by several MPG, until I changed to bigger tyres. Then it was less horrid, but I wouldn't call it accurate enough for me.

My CRD EVIC is usually within 1/2 MPG on 350 mile trips. It usually reads a little lower than corrected actual.

Thank you all for your feedback. Seems that EVIC MPG reading is pretty close to accurate. Needless to say I am very pleased with these numbers. Where i buy fuel, premium and diesel are now the same price, $4.20/gal. Regular is $4.00

Right now mine is showing about 5% high in town.

I don't have an EVIC - am looking for one though - but I consistantly get between 31 and 33 mpg avg. per tank driving approx 65 with 40 psi in stock tires and no muffler, and about 90% hwy driving

I have been running B5 for about 3 months now. One of the stations near me just switched their regular 100% dino to B5. After running it for about 3 weeks It started running smoother and my mpg nudged up just a bit. I can't really say its the B5 that made a difference for sure or not.
