It is easier to cut transmission coolere return line and install a T than drill a hole in the pan.
I think for my installation something like the B&M transmission temp kit is going in on the return side of the Thermal Bypass unit. Even though the B&M gauge is a bit ugly.
With the Thermal Bypass unit if the transmission fluid gets hot, say 180*, the fluid goes on to the cooler, otherwise it just loops back to the transmission.
With the temperature sensor just downstream of the Thermal Bypass unit if the TB unit is failing or the cooler is not working The temp will indicate the increase and there will really be a problem.
