I am getting ready to go on a 1500 mile trip. I can't get new silicone hoses in time, but I want to inspect my hoses for peace of mind. I did the EHM at 19K and am now at 36k. Can I do a visual from the outside or should I pull them off to inspect? They usually split on the outside right? Seems like someone said the outer rubber splits letting the silicone inside rupture. I never seem to find what I am looking for when searching. Thanks |

Thanks The hose clamps come off easily with a screwdriver or nut driver and you can simply inspect them visually. Usually the splits occur anywhere the oil pools inside the hose or where the clamps are (due to higher strain in the first place). Flex them around in your hands to see if any part of the rubber feels like it's creased or has lost its structural integrity (like it's TOO flexible). Ultimately, you just won't know until it happens, so bring a roll of high-temp duct tape or one of those "quick exhaust leak" fix kits from the auto parts store. As long as you prepare, its less likely to actually fail, so says Murphy's Law. Dan |

Agreed - also flush out with autozone brand cleaner and hot water rinse - clean the oil from the turbo and c\a cooler connection tubes and it'll go back jam up and jelly tight - just did mine at 68kmi, no sign of fail, last 15-18kmi with Provent |
