| Post subject: | Engine lost power & rattled... |
Hi guys, I had a very strange thing on my 2006 CRD (30 K miles) Engine not yet warm, i left a greenlight by accelerating smoothly. When it shifted to 3rd gear it lost almost all its power. Like the engine was running on 1 or 2 cylinders. I got to a parking area, openned the hoot and the engine was rattling like hell. Closed the hoot, drove 1 mile: absolutely without power, average speed approx. 10 miles/hour and rattling Stopped the engine, called the TCS (great Swiss stuff that will get you out of any poopoo). Waiting for the mechanics to arrive, i started the engine again: Runned fantastic !!! No rattling , all the cylinders where back and got all the CRD power !!! No error lights on the dashboard either !! The mechanic connected the toughbook: no error message either !!! Since there is no trace of the problem, my mechanic cant do anything ! Does anyone had it ? Any idea of what it is ? How to solve it? Many thanks Cheers from Swiss Alps !! |

EGR valve stuck open that will give you low power. Many on the forum have reported these same issues. First search form in the CRD tech section good stuff. |

| Post subject: | EGR valves defectuous or dirty? |
Thanks Herk. I found lots of tech details on the ERG valve. But any idea on how to solve the problem? is it recurrent ? does it need cleaning, or to be replaced ? This time the valve closed again, is there something to do if it stays open ? knock on the ERG ? thanks |

A number of folks have had - no power - turn off/on and it's fine, does not repeat. It's probably an air in fuel issue. EGR tends to give CEL and codes to troubleshoot. but the heater plug on the fuel head (plug on the right) and look for fuel leaking out. |

THat's right ! Double thread ! And it really seems taht the issue nothing more than some air in gaz. The most important i think is that no one got definitely stuck because of this... Happy Libying ! |
