Post subject: | ETC light on after SEGR Install |
Drove about 50 miles immediately after SEGR install without incident and with EVIC showing dramatically higher MPG than normal with InMotion Stage II ECU (5-6 MPG more). Shut down, then restarted after 45 min. After driving about 20 min, ETC light came on (had never occurred before today) while waiting in line at a toll booth. Remained on for 5 min of highway driving. Then, after simply stopping and immediately restarting, the ETC light went out and has stayed out for three relatively short stop/start cycles today. ACTRON pocket scanner shows no codes, but it clearly can't display all MOPAR codes. Any thoughts? Thanks DOC |

The ETC light is the malfunction indicator for the Electronic Throttle Control - basically saying that there is a problem with the two voltage circuits for the pedal. In the ECU there are three separate 5 volt supplies that provide the voltage for the various sensors. The pedal has two redundant circuits in it (each with different supply voltage) and one of these is shared with the mass air flow sensor. I would guess that there is an intermittant short somewhere in your SEGR kit that is providing a resistive short to ground somewhere and causing this to come on. |

Thanks - I haven't driven it enuff to even note all the icons on the instrument panel, much less be familiar with them - ETC is close enuff to typeau for DTC, so, in my multi-faceted way (read: facetious), I was looking for clarification - GM calls it Accelerator Position Potentiometer module, or APP, and the icon is STS, Service Throttle Soon - but, enuff trivia for now - check pins 1 and 2 on the SEGR module, look for solder bridges, shorts, etc |

Dennis and Nathan, Your thoughts? In 25K miles of personal operation (42K total miles), we have never seen the ETC light other than with all the others, momentarily, at startup. (Has not occured often enough yet to determine precise conditions that may trigger it.) Is the thinking that the ETC light should not come on with the cable disconnected from the SEGR box and the bypass plug installed, thus narrowing the source of the problem to the SEGR box itself rather than something with the installation into the vehicle wiring harness? Thanks, DOC |

Yep sounds right DOC. If the DTC light comes on again with the segr installed. Install the jumper plug and see if it comes on again. Dennis |

FYI - if you 'power brake' at all, and the vehicle moves, the ETC light will also come on. Discovered that one back when the EGR/AFC was going out and it wan't running well... Good luck, Mark |

Msilbernagle, Do you mean applying power at the same time as braking? You just may have figured it out. I routinely left foot brake in all vehicles whenever this is possible. Just prior to noticing the ETC light was on, I was inching along in a tollbooth line and having a lot of difficulty trying to wrestle some money out the pocket of my jeans to pay the toll. With all the wriggling around I was doing, I may very well have hit both pedals at the same time. Thanks! DOC |
