Anybody had or used a 10 ply tire on their liberty?

Since the day I drove my KJ off the dealer lot with 3 miles on it back in '02.Goodyear MT/R's for the most part,much better feel then "P" rated tires that come on the KJ stock.

I have a set of Goodyear MT/R's for fun and the winter (load range D), and a set of Michelin XPS Rib's (load range E) for the summer and towing the trailer.

I've run MTR's and then tried E load Kumhos when they wore out - MTR's have stronger sidewalls even thought they're both E's - and expect the tires to be 25-30 lbs heavier and mileage to drop about at least 1-2 mpg.

Oh yeah - and the MTR's will have awesome traction in Moab when you drop them down to 18-20 psi.

I went with the Goodyear TA/KOs "D" rated which is 8 ply rated. I wanted the sidewall strength to deal with the Alaska Hwy and Dempster Hwy and other off road activities in Canada & Alaska. Worked well Also should be good for towing. Not sure why I would need more in a Liberty but I could understand on a heavier vehicle.
What pressures do you run in a 10 ply at different temps and road/dirt conditions?

Those conditions make my Michigan construction zones look very mild. I tend to run high pressures for decreased rolling resistance. 65 psi all four corners in the summer with the smoothie XPS Ribs, 50 front 40 rear in the winter with the MT/R's. I drop the rear pressure in the winter because the Air Lifts in the rear springs get real stiff below freezing.

I have load range E, partly because it is almost the only way to get the 245-75-16 (30.5 inch diam) tire (perfect size for 2.5" lift). I chose the lightest AT / MT I could find which is the Dunplop Radial Rover RT (40 lb each). This is compared to the BFG AT that weighs 50 lb. The load range D that you can find for this size (cooper for instance) weigh in the low 40s anyway. I run 48 psi cold, or 51 psi very hot. So far with 4000 miles I am happy

I just recently lifted my KJ 2.5 inches and I still had the cheapo UNIROYAL LIBERTY tires that came with it when I bought it. I went down to Big-O tires and the only 245/75's they had, were their house brand Bigfoot AT's in a 10 ply. The guy said it was what the border patrol guys in the area bought because of the free replacement no matter what, short of sticking a knife in it. He also said that since it was a 10 ply that it would ride rougher that a passenger rated tire. Boy was he wrong! My KJ never rode so well! I definitely like having the piece of mind of having a 10 ply, especially with the terrain over here.
