Help.

Purchased 2006 CRD six weeks ago with 23k from dealer - seems real cream puff. No tow package so added hitch, electric brake controller, weight transfer and anti-sway gear from etrailer, changed rear diff, fluid as recomended and added Water Wetter as I usually do to towers. All this to tow new 2500 lb. RV trailer. Drove to Colorado from DC w/no problems and confident feelings. Fluids (all) were correct for 500 miles of shakedown before trip and first 1500 miles of trip - didn't check trans. for last 500 miles of drive. Drove about 300 miles with no tow in central Co. then went in for oil change and general check. Tech was concerned that he had to add just short of a quart of trans. fluid. In the two weeks since I have added an additional quart and a half. Have crawled underneath from one end to the other and there is no sign of a single drop of leak - had this confirmed by mechanic check. Have, the last two days, felt that the shifts are not clean - just barely noticeable roughness - not quite a snatch- upon the rare occasion but still there. Have 26k now - completed 3k since purchase. Do not have confidence to start homeward in two weeks without answers.

So where is the fluid going and what are the implications?

Maybe F-37 recall was just done or trans work was just done before you bought it. It's takes awhile for the fluid to equalize after trans work. Some were underfilled when new also. No leaks- no worries.

Yes, I just did my tranny service, filled and checked level, but had to add fluid after driving it for a while.

Check your transfer case fill level. Should be to bottom of fill hole down to one inch below. If you pull the rubber plug out of the t-case and oil comes pouring out, you know where the extra came from.
