In another thread I posted that I will be buying a CRD in about a month. In my research I found out that no one has been able to shut off the EGR with a chip. I personally know Charlie Migliore aka KermaTDI from Fred over at TDIClub.com. I called him up and talked to him about the problem. He said that he would work on it if I would volunteer my CRD as a test mule. He is pretty confident that he will be able to get the EGR figured out. He also said the I may be able to get someone else to buld me a diesel specific torque converter for less money than suncoast. Charlie has some good diesel contacts in his line of business.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in a chip that will turn off the EGR without throwing a CEL?

Would anyone be interested in different torque converter other than suncoast?

My jeep would be the test mule and it will take some time to get the tuning done. Charlie said that we would start slow with the performance tuning to not nuke the TC.

Just some info I am looking into. I want to be an educated buyer!!!

Also, please read my other post. I have a few questions.

The guys here on this forum that invented the chips that eliminate the EGR without casting a CEL like to call it the SEGR - it is necessary to control the FCV\TV without also casting a CEL for that device

ATS builds a KJ CRD torque convertor specific to Diesels, but it's way more expensive than Suncoast, by almost twice

PATC builds a hi-perf torque convertor specific to the HEMI's, but will build it to Diesel-specifics for about the same price as Suncoast

Suncoast builds a KJ CRD-specific torque convertor, based on input from this forum, and is exactly the same price as Suncoast - and it works

Point being, fresh input is always welcome, so to remain fresh, please log out without reading any of the reams of research and development data done on this forum by forum members, such that your input will remain fresh and unspoiled

BTW - welcome to the forum 8)

And one last thing: to maintain fresh perspective, please do not read my sig................

Don't get discouraged... there is a ton of great info here and you should take the time to read it, but a fresh perspective is always helpful.

Most of the advice you'll find here (with the exception of stuff from a poster named OldNavy) is from the perspective of folks familiar with diesel engines from truck/industrial applications (some of it extremely good and helpful). However, there has not been a ton cross pollination from the TDI diesel enthusiasts. Technologically, the CRD engine has more in common with the pre-pump duse TDI's than a Cummins or Duramax.

I know Kerma's reputation in the TDI racing/tuning world. His input on modifying our CRD's would be more than welcome by me (and I already own the SEGR mod mentioned above).

I have not invested in the Suncoast TC yet because my stock converter has not died, and the cost of the Suncoast has been prohibitive. I'd certainly welcome some competition that would give CRD owners more options.

If you can provide the Inmotion power gains and SEGR functionality (EGR works in Park, off in all other modes, etc.), you'd have plenty of interest.

Yes. As I understand it, Stan has an issue with an Edge power module and his SEGR. Maybe it's just an earler version, as others have not had this issue.

Chris, are you sure about the EGR operating while in park? Maybe I have a newer version (as I did get mine in the last batch) but on mine... The EGR is incapable of operating EVER, as the power wire is physically not connected in the plug. This is how it was designed, and only the "stock mode" jumper plug makes it operational again.

Thats also how I like it, as it was on my TDI Jetta: Totally disconnected, and no possibility of filth re-entering my clean intake.

On my Golf I don't have the EGR cooler anymore and the egr is blocked off. There is a lot more room back there now!!

When I get the CRD I will meet with Kerma and we (mostly he, since I am not too smart) can try to figure it out.

Super duper ideas. It is always very nice to read about people with more contacts than we got so far (and the list is already very long!). We're all here to get the optimum experience from our KJs, and any additional help and input is much appriciated!

I think you'll also find plenty of help on this site to some of the small things you encounter with the KJ.

I hope you get a really good speciment of the CRD KJ when you decide to place your money :)

Welcome to the forum!

That's correct, with the SEGR, the EGR never opens. I think Chris is thinking of the FCV being functional in park..

Thanks!!! I hope I get a good one too. I can tell that you guys are all very friendly. (so far at least) I think finding these owners groups can make or break the vehicle. If you can't figure out the problems then you may not like the vehicle at all. A lot of people try to stay away from the TDIs because they have heard bad things. I love mine. But I also have Freds to help me out!

Thank you for your input and hopefully I can contribute to the site!

In TDI performance tuning circles, Inmotion is considered the poor man's knock off of Kerma's tuning work. Some of that stuff is just scary.

http://www.kermatdi.com/servlet/StoreFront

But his prices are way higher than Inmotion (that was their initial business niche, a cheaper alternative to big-name TDI performance tuners).

If it deletes the EGR without the CEL and you haven't bought the SEGR kit it could be more expensive and not cost you extra money. But if you have already done the SEGR then it may not be an advantage. However, I am sure Kerma can come up with a performance tune if that interests anyone.

If it disables the EGR and the FCV except in park, folks will be interested. :) (I am on the SEGR waiting list but I would prefer a tune-based solution.)

Definitely very interesting. I would love to have a true performance tune. The inmotion tune is nice but it really only restores the tune to VM factory specs after the DCX dumbdown. I have had the segr kit sitting on my desk for nearly a year now but no time to put it together and I don't like the idea of splicing into my wiring harness either. If there were a plug and play alternative with an affordable TC I'm game.

I would be very interested in a Kerma tune. I also own a 2004 Jetta TDI and will be using Kerma for nozzles and a tune when it is off warranty. If they can unleash the stifled performance of this motor I would pay their premium.

I've been running Aligator tuning from Kerma on the TDI for over a year now. It is convenient to receive tunes in email and load them through the OBD port. I would certainly consider running Kerma tuning on the Jeep.

I just received some info from an off forum source that Inmotion can indeed provide any custom tune desired. Has anyone had a custom tune done by them? I am going to try and contact them about an EGR delete "for offroad".

Last I heard, the most they could turn down the EGR was to 60%. They could turn the EGR off completely, but you would get a CEL/MIL if the EGR was not operating at least 60% of the time.

Just got off the phone with Inmotion and the dope is that no, they can't do a true custom tune. By custom I mean turn off EGR with out the CEL etc.. He also told me that the ORM will not shut the EGR off and that the MAF has to be plugged in for adaptive fueling at altitude and air density variations.

edit: Inmotion does claim that they can indeed delete the EGR without a cell but would need to invest time and money to fix something which already has a fix with the SEGR. I may have caught the salesman at a bad moment the first time and misunderstood his statements about they can do and want they will or want to do.
